Hey Virtual Samana....

Thanks....

The story of my recording is actually very boring... Im not into fancy converters, or Word clocks, and I don't spent hours miking....Heck I don't even like using out board pres..... I go the simplist route... I know that all that stuff would make better noises, but Im fairly happy with my noises :D

Very anti-climactic eh?...:)

To be honest, I just threw up the mic, and sat in front of it.... Spent about 30 seconds fiddling with my sitting position until the guitar sounded crisp and clean through the headphones.. It's about the third Take.....

Each panned guitar is a totally different performance.... about a week apart....

One is a 57, and the other is a 4033...

Vocal is a 57, ............ I was sitting at my computer desk singing that vocal.... I have a proper booth and the 4033.. but what can I say,.. Im damn lazy..I think I just used what was closest and already hooked up:D

I don't really have any secrets, other than... Don't be scared to add some high eq to acoustic to make it sound crisp... and a nice amount of compresion with a slightly slower attack, so you still get that strumming punch..

Oh and about my playing..... Well, I purposley learned those chords for that song........ or, I wrote that chorus around those chords cause they are the only ones I know :D.... Probably a bit of both...

No-name brand $75.00 acoustic... 4-5 month old strings.... (Eq definately made that guitar sound good:)

Thanks for listening Virtual Samana....
Joe

I loved the tune and your almost perfect execution.

But I think you EQ'ed this piece into next week.

I would've preferred a more natural approach rather than the affected tracks that were mixed into this track.

Just my humble opinion.

The vocals occasionally get buried.

Overall: Nice Work.

Thanks Dr Stawl.....

Or is it Stawl M.D. :D

Yeah I love my Eq, and borderline over-production... Im a Mutt Lange fan..

By the way, thats all rennaisance Eq.... no just ANY Eq... *LOL*

Thanks...

Cheers..Joe

Hey Voxvendor, great job!! I really dig the effects and noise and panning and stuff. I also liked the way you dropped the bass out sometimes. Some things maybe, (I'm listening on headphones, though), the crashes seemed too loud, I dig the acoustics from nowhere, but maybe they could be turned down, the answer vocal seemed louder than the lead, plus the panning seemed a little weird to me, just slightly left, maybe double it and pan them both or something. Overall though, sounds really good!!

Okay, so I just listened through my headphones (AKG K240s) and I still say it sounds great. Funny but I think I like that panning thing even more in headphones. But I like creativity in your mix like that. Job well done, man. I'd like to hear more.

Ok, so im probly setting myself up for some criticism here but....
did a solo for him anyway. Couldnt email you so it'l have to be here. Sory folks. But anyway I took it the other way. Maybe to far, maybe not, whatever....but just an idea.
Internet colaboration. Might start gett'n into that.

What about a uke solo.......just kidding.

Wow, that was interesting..... Are you that guy from metallica? *LOL*

It was neat.. thats for sure..... was it in a different Key or something... that first chord that starts of the solo didn't seem right?.. is it just my ears?...

RE: Internet collaboration..... I think its the wave of the future...!.....Wow........ remember the days when you had to post a piece of paper in your local music shop, just to find a guitar player... and Now it's just unbelievable....

Hell, I've got a paper up right now looking for a drummer. When I get home, I'll have to listen to the solo. By the way, I meant to tell you that I like the vocals a lot on this. You've got a great voice.

Yeh, I went for that Steve Lukather (Toto) type of thing. Now that I listen to it the next day, maybe its a bit too much. Anyway what youve got there works better.

Don't give up yet... Yeah that solo was a bit "out there" but I liked the direction you were going with it Scott....

If you have a few spare moments, post some more...

Joe
