I am new to PC Recording, and trying to make a decision on equipment to buy. Just bought an HP computer w/ a 2.2 GHz psr.,512 mb ram and I believe the sound card is a Realtek AL658 "on the motherboard". I was thinking that I wanted a Tascam us-122 interface, but it seems people are having trouble with it working w/ windows xp. Now I'm thinking M Audio interface w/ cakewalk and adding a soundcard, like the card that comes with the interface. I'll just be recording 1 or 2 tracks at time. Need your advice. Thanks.

i use a tascam us122 and it works fine with windows, has both WD and ASIO brivers. There is a problem of taking the USB route if you want to record a bunch of tracks at once, but since the tascam only records 2 tracks at once and midi, that is not a problem. It has served me wll in my recordings but keep in mind that it does not sample at 96 khz, so if you wanted to do that you would prolly ahve to look elsewhere. My next purchase (if i ever get a desktop) will be an m-audio omni stuio.

good luck
