I am a newbie recording cassette tapes thru a emu0404 card.

Have wavelite working also.

also have cubasis(clueless).
Kristal(clueless again).
I am getting a lot of tape hiss, any suggestions on editing out hiss,
Is it normally on certain frequency.
any particular filters.
any replies appreciated.
please excuse my basic questions.

I use Waves X-Hiss. Take a sample of the hiss only (no music) to build a profile and BAM. Hiss is mostly gone.

man, i've just gotten the hang of using gold wave and its amazing how much hiss it can remove with the noise reduction feature. i took some of my very old 4 track recordings that were on terrible quality tape, put them on there and ran the noise reduction then put them on a cd, perfect quality, seriously as good if not better than the stuff i've recorded on the adat in my schools studio

Were the tapes recorded with NR? If so, you must playback the same way.

I told you GoldWave is the shiznit. I use it all the time. I think I am going to buy a real version.

hell yeah, thanks for telling me about it . i think i'll be able to make a better demo using my fostex 4 track and goldwave than my friends made in our college studio a while back, ..... so, on the demo version, does your trial ever run out? or does it just cut you off after 150 commands each time? i may have to end up buying the full version soon too,

I just found out the other day that it will run out after 3000 commands. SO 150 each time before it shuts down. So divide 3000 by 150. By my count thats only 20 times before the software completely stops working. I'll have to buy it soon I think. I noticed they have a multitracking software too. Maybe I'll check that out first.
