Dear all,
I've got a problem.
When I bought this nice DBX unit TEAC RX-9 in order to use it, a noticed it can't be done without the Tape Deck. It must be TEAC 3440 or the unit will not start I suppose. There is no light, nothing happening.
Is this unit in order or is dead? Is there any possibility for the unit to work as a normal ordinary DBX unit without 3440 to be connected ?
I need someone who knows what is the next move.Is there any other way to start the unit, do I have to dig very deep for this Tape Deck TEAC 3440.
Or to get it in the bin.
Thanks a lot for your time and efforts to help.
Kind Regards to all.
Nik.

If the RX9 can simultaneous encode & decode, it can probably be modified as a "stand-alone" unit by shorting one of the outside legs of the circuit switching control transistors for each channel to ground. That's what was done to my DX4D's. If it isn't powering up at all, check the power supply. It could be as simple as a blown/missing fuse.

Dear R Ruskin,
Thanks a lot for your so prompt reply.
I am not too much educated as you are in this field and there is not to much help because I certainly need some further assistance.
I took some photos where is quite visible this switching control circuit and the tranzistors you mentioned if I may assume. If is not too much from me to ask you for the further assistence, I will be more than happy. These photos shows all contacts going in and out from the SCC: Green line rounds the connectors coming from the every single DBX unit. Red Line is power, blue line present the connectors coming from the SCC and going to the outside controll connector on the cable.
I need to know which outside leg from the which transistor need to be short connected to the gnd.
And I've found one fusse blown out F2 ( red chross ). I didn't do any further checking because I wait for the Tascam 32 2B to come which has the DBX controll connector, and for your assistence if you don't mind. The unit has no burning smell at any point. It could be only blown fusse at all. But the reason?

Thanks a lot for your time and efforts to help.
Very Kind Regards, Nik.

And the last one.

I am sorry because of it. There was a big need to send them all. Othervise I will never be shure that I have done as it should.
Thanks. All The Best. Nik.

I don't see anythings in your photos that resemble the transistors I dealt with on my dx4D units. It has been close to 20 years since I was inside any of my dbx gear. Go ahead and replace the bad fuse. It could have just burned out or it could have blown because of a power supply problem. If them new one dies, have the power supply checked. I do not know if the 32B will control the RX9 but it shouldn't hurt anything to try. If the 2 units work together, there will be no need to do any modifications.

Hello Mr. Ruskin.
It is a great pleasure to have that support so far from here.
I will do all as you said. But in time. Let's 32 2B come here and then I will ask for help again. I am not too sure in me in this adventure. I just would like to change the fuse only when the deck will be connected. There is the same female slot to receive the DBX's controll cable.
Thanks a lot for offered help. It means to me a lot.
Cheers. Nik.
