Whats up, I was wanting to know was the best microphone to use if you're on a budget...I have seen a lot of mics on musiciansfriends.com and seen some mics with some good reviews, but I want to know if they're any good soundin mics...I'm looking on buying a mic between $100-200...

I been looking at these...
MXL 990
MXL V68M
AKG Perception 200
Audio Technica AT2020
Audio Technica AT3035
Shure KSM27
and some more to name....

The KSM27 is probably the best one on your list. If you could step up to the 40 series AT mics (4040, 4033), that would be an option. The CAD M179 is possibly the most versatile LDC under $200, but may or may not be the best for your voice.

The MXL 990 is a medium diaphragm condenser that is ok for that "breathy, whispery" vocal, but is kind of grainy and tends to emphasize sibilance.

rode nt1a is right at $200 and its a great mic for vocals or studio projects c1 is 200 also

Do a search, many many many opinions on file. Don't hate me for saying this, I just feel that if we say this to the rappers then we need to say this to everyone who asks this question.

You're absolutely right - IHMO EVERYONE should do a search in this forum before posting such a generic question. In fact, they should spend a day or two just READING UP from this forum before they post these questions. Chances are, they'll get the majority of their questions answered that way.

Don't forget the Studio Projects B1.
There is nothing that touches it for the money.
I have some decent higher end mics but have not and will not sell the B1.

The KSM27 is not a bad mic but I had one to try and returned it. It was just a bit flat sounding, but again, not bad and built nicely. Shure is a quality company.

The CAD M179 is a very clean clear and good mic.
The M177 is the same mic with only cardioid pattern, which may be all you need.....and for less money.

If you want an AT2020, I have a brand new one I can let go for about $65.
I would put it after the M179 and B1, but for the money it's a good buy and a nice mic that is nicely made. It all depends on what you want to spend.

Good luck!

Nate_Nate04,

If you're going to ping me with neg rep for my comment above, at least have the balls to sign it and leave a comment.

Then i take it back.

It's hard to tell with no comment and no rep whether it's pos or neg rep.

My bad.

You don't have enough post to do that yet, but thanks for the consideration. Seriously though, do a search and you'll get lost in a see of reviews and feedback. When I first got onto the forums I was too afraid of these heartless bastards to post so I just read. It kept me busy for weeks.
