Hi there. I'm quite new to the forum, so please bear with me. I just want to know how I can record the sounds I get from my Yamaha DD 55 (digital drum pads) to my Korg D 12. I've tried connecting through midi, just like the manual says, and I've followed every step, but I still can't get the drum sounds to come out of the D 12. I suspect I need to adjust some settings on the D 12, since I don't understand midi that much. HELP! thanks.

i dont have either of those units , but assuming your doing midi cable connections. one basic is to match the midi send/receive channels on
the two. normally midi drums are for example channel 10.
so try setting the send midi channel on d55 to 10, and the receive midi
channel on korg to 10. tell me how you get on !
heres a nice midi tutorial...i came across.

Wow, thanks for the reply. Ok, I'll check out that link first and if I still can't make everything work, I'll come back. Thanks!

To get that to work you need to make sure the following is done:

That both units are on the same MIDI channel (1-16). Say you choose channel 3... make sure they are set to send and recieve on the same channel.

That the send unit has a MIDI cable plugged into the MIDI OUT

That the recieve unit has a MIDI cable plugged into the MIDI IN

That the send unit is sending the NOTE NUMBER you want for that particular pad

That the recieve unit has the sound you want assigned that same NOTE NUMBER (and no other sound has an identical note number either)

That nothing is funny with any VELOCITY commands/controls on either unit

The volume is at a decent level on the unit AND on that particular sound you want to trigger.

The recieve unit has a 1/4" cable plugged into its audio output(s) and the monitoring chain is solid (i.e. test on the unit itself before messing w/ the MIDI stuff)
