I know this is a question that has been asked many times, but I'm trying to find an audio interface and I have quite specific criteria which I can't match with anything I can currently find.
I record using an iMac with Cubase, at the moment using a Yamaha EMX5016CF powered mixer (which only has 2 aux outs) through a TASCAM1641 interface. I would like a USB2.0/3.0/firewire interface with full duplex (ie 8x8 etc) to give me full mixing capability with my computer.
As I am a solo recorder usually, i don't need any more than 4 or 6 inputs really (a couple of stereo for effects returns would be good).
On each mono input I need the following: XLR (with phantom pwr) and 1/4 jack, an insert (principally for compression),3-band eq (with sweepable mid) and effect send, as well as the usual gain and pan. I would like faders if possible, but I know pots are usual on the smaller boards.
I would also like onboard effects which are decent enough to use, but I am willing to get a reverb to use in the insert chain, or effect send/return instead.

The closest I can find is the Alesis Multimix 8 USB2.0, but it doesn't have an insert on the mono channels which I find essential.

If I am being stupid (quite likely) and there is a much easier way of doing this, please let me know. i effectively want my computer to be simply the recording medium (with the track manipulaton of the software), with all tracking and mixing being done with the external rig.

Any ideas??? Thanks... not that it will make me sound any better...

Ok, if anyone wonders, I think I've found it, and surprise, it's another yamaha... The n8/n12 seems to provide everything I need... problem solved. Although if anyone knows how much more functionality you get in an n12 over an n8, that would be very helpful...

Thanks
