hihi,

i posted this under live sound because i cant find it anywhere else and i'm not too sure where i can post this.

at the place where i do live events, our pop filters get smelly so fast that we change and wash (at least) 7 of them every week.

this is really tedious and never ending. sometimes, it gets so gross that after just 10 mins of usage, the top of the pop filter is wet and we have to change it.

is there any better solution than washing them? we cant work without pop filters cos then we would have to wash the mic capsule.. maybe is there some kind of equipment that we can use to "disinfect" (or at least make it smell better) the pop filter immediately after usage? even if all you have is an idea, do let me know. yes... the situation is getting a little desperate.

thanks a million!! :)

Tell the singers "Say it, don't spray it." :)

Seriously, there isn't a way around it, really. And as far as I am concerned, cleaning them should be done after every gig, before any other person uses your mics. But you can make it easier on yourself.

I keep a tub of disinfectant near a sink. Pop the screens or balls in the tub and rinse. I bought a wooden coat rack, you know, the kind with dowels to hold coats. It is right above the sink. Out of the rinse water, onto the rack. The whole process takes just a few minutes, and they dry by morning. If they aren't, use a hair dryer.

"say it, don't spray it"?? hahha. mebbie i'll try it.. but when they get excited, its not that easy..

any other ideas?

Yes. Get used to washing windscreens and cleaning microphones. :)
