I decided to install this on a win xp system. I have two sound cards installed, a sb x-fi and m-audio 2496. I'm trying to set it up so I use the m-audio for recording in from the mixer and the sb for playback (to minimize needing a switch to switch my speakers between the two).

I'm not sure what items to pick in the audio setup in sonar. There are several m-audio listings and a couple of SB.

ALso, I installed the ASIO drivers and they are showing up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rut

You really should only use one sound card for many reasons. Not the least of whitch is, if you only have one sound card, you don't need to switch between two. And your computer will be throwin lots of errors at you if you try to run two.

The M-Audio is perfectly capable of recording and playback. I don't see any benefit to having two sound cards...just problems. You just need to plug the M-Audio outs into something like a Presonus HP4 and plug powered monitors into the HP4 outs. You'll have monitor muting and 4 headphone outs that way and life will be much easier.

Hey...wait...did you BUY the M-Audio card??? It should have come with very clear instructions.....

You should not be using both cards together. Forget about the SB and just use the 2496.

Actually, I was mostly keeping the SB card for gaming. Regardless, In Home Studio I'm still not sure what selections to make in the audio setup. As stated, the m-audio is listed several times in the drop-down and I'm unsure of which to use. When I try to record there is considerable delay between when I strum and when the graphs move in the software.

Any suggestions?

Could be hardware limitations or set up but I'm running two delta1010LT's and the SB Audigy without issue. I started out this way way back because of the same speaker limitation issues. I didn't yet have monitors when I assembled my first first machine. I was able to let the play back go through the PC and do all the input/recording through a delta. I was sure to set up the Delta into a seperate IRQ but other than being sure not to try to "steer" audio out to both cards at the same time...no problemo.

You'll need to set you playback master and record timing master in your audio setup in SONAR. I should add that I'm not using ASIO. I actaually prefer WDM but I've got plenty of horse power for that and near zero latency. Besides, the Delta card with the input monitoring pretty much eliminates any problems that way.

Check you PM...I sent you some basic set up info that I have in my machine.
