Ok, so I've tried using multiple programs including Audacity, Camtasia, etc. in order to record audio clips from videos on my computer. I want to use these audio clips to make a flash soundboard, except I have one problem. Whenever I try recording audio clips, there's this loud fuzzy sound in the background and the audio clip never comes out clear. I've tried adjusting microphone and speaker levels but it doesn't work. I'm just trying to record from the computer itself, I'm not recording any outside sound. I am using a laptop in case that makes a difference. If someone could help me that'd be great. Thanks.

I think what WhiteStrat is implying is that someone like me (or a billion others) would write and say it is most likely a problem with your onboard sound card. Those things are noisy as all getout. I once tried to do a similar thing as you and the result was nasty. Why? Because the stock soundcards on computers have an extremely high noise floor.

What is your signal chain?

What's the mic? What's the preamp you're using? What capture interface?

Jeebus, you want us to just guess what you're using and tell you what's wrong?

"My car's making a funny noise. I'm not going to tell you what kind of car it is, how it's equipped, what the sound is like, where the sound is coming from or anything else.....
....what do you mean you can't just tell me what it is????"

---- Please think before you post

Chances are you're picking up the sound of the laptop's fan and hard drive grinding away
using a $4 stick mic with a 50cent element on a builtin soundcard that has $1 worth of chips
made by a cheap manufacturer for beeps, boops and light gaming, not recording.

...but we're not psychic.

Good call, but that's not what I meant. I'm gonna wait a bit more and see if I'm right...
