Pimping is such an ugly word - at the very least it means bad taste & at worst it's procuring.

"THAT'S SOME AWESOME SHADING THERE BRO"

Haha. Don't be dissing my skills on the P-E-N to the C-I-L:)

I blame my too strong seriousness on the post-flexer :P

Hehe, the stand works fine believe it or not.

Kidding aside, you don't have any advice that you want to share, Mr. Tortoise?:)

Madfresh, the mere name "SOUNDPROOF FOAM" is a repugnant LIE!:mad:

These liars prey on people such as yourself who have very little knowlege of SOUNDPROOFING. They should be challenged in a court of law. However, the best defence against these lying bastards is KNOWLEGE. PERIOD.

You didn't want to listen to my best advice before, but I'll say it again. MASS

and ONLY MASS, will assist in "soundproofing". However, let me give you a clue to something. There is NO SUCH THING as "soundproof", unless you are buried 50' underground or so, in a concrete bunker with walls 10' thick. But even then, a thermonuclear explosion will submit your ears to the truth.

So be it. Here is the truth. Foam is an ABSORBER, and even as such, has different absorption coefficients at different frequencies. It does NOT soundproof a goddamn thing. Hope this clears up your question.

Haha!:D

Alright, alright. So:

Mass --> Isolation.
Foam --> Absorption.

Ok, I got it.

Btw 1, maybe we should replace the word "soundproofing" with hmm...I don't know...maybe "damping"?

Btw 2, sorry about my comments before. I was in pissed off-mode. I'm not usually like that. Normally, I'm a real, nice, happy, friendly guy:)

Thanks for the advice.

Hey Mad, nice if you and Rick can work it out, he does have a lot of knowledge to share.
I'll share a little as well, Rick can go into more depth but here it is in nutshell:
soundproofing = isolation
high frequency isolation = airtightness
low frequency isolation = mass + airtightness
If your intent is to sing in the wardrobe anytime you feel like it and not have the neighbors get excited, I would drop it. I doubt you can economically soundproof the wardrobe, and if you can, I doubt it will sound good inside because it will be too small, cramped & hot.
Sing when they are gone, or obtain the means to record portably and sing somewhere else.
Another note: when you use slang and do not bother to capitalize or punctuate appropriately people will not take you as seriously as you might wish.
cheers,
C.

Ok, I got it.
:D:cool:

The correct and scientific word is ..

TRANSMISSION LOSS. Or, TL for short. In other words, a given material OR assembly such as a wall, can be tested for its ability to resist the TRANSMISSION of vibration, and is RATED at a certain TL. This is fact. PERIOD

:)Me too. The feeling is mutual. ;) Now, lets get down to business. I don't have time to delve into a "somewhat" solution at the moment, but I'll be back.

Hey.

"high frequency isolation = airtightness
low frequency isolation = mass + airtightness"

Ok. Thanks.

I don't really demand a "vocal booth" in which I can record at 3 in the morning - I think that would be too much to ask. Rather, it would be enough if the singing sounded - if only slightly - less loud than it would if I stood "naked", directly in my room.

Anyway, this project represents one of three recording alternatives I have and it more and more seems like I need to exclude it.

RICK FITZPATRICK

Alright. Thanks for the help so far:)

Hey, guys, one thing about absorption.

I know that there are different types of foam, used for getting rid of different kinds of frequencies. If you look at my Picasso-drawing there of the wardrobe - what kinds of foam should I put and where?

I read somewhere that foam absorbing bass frequencies are good to put in all corners of a vocal booth but I've also seen pictures of booths looking differently, with this kind of foam put on all sides:

Btw, the last question is just a general question about absorption for vocal booths.
