I am having trouble with my levels while overdubbing with headphones. The soundsource(track I'm recording) is too loud and drowns out the previoulsly recorded tracks I am playing along with. I cannot decrease the volume in the monitors(of the soundsource) without decreasing the recording level.

I have a Yamaha MD8 andthe manual is no help in this area. I am hoping that is pretty basic and someone can help me. I have only had this thing for a couple of weeks.

Thanks

Roch

Why don't you make everything else louder while your overdubbing.

Yo Roch-el-Loudo:

Are you putting your "recorded tracks" on the MD8 into the CUE mode before you add another track?

I have an MD8 in my studio but don't use it much since I got the Yam 2816 -- but it looks nice in my studio.

I never had the problem you describe. If you don't put recorded tracks into the CUE mode, all kinds of weird things happen

Let's say you have chords and drums on two tracks; that's usually the way I started. Now, I want to add a bass line to the chords and drums....must put chords/drums INTO CUE mode to do the bass line. In the CUE mode the cue tracks can be cranked or lowered as it makes no difference to them -- they are recorded. So, all you need is to be able to hear them, and there is a CUE volume knob on your MD8, and when all the tracks are done, you push the buttons and mix down your tracks.

I think you are merely having a moment of "I don't understand the manual."

Green Hornet :D ;)
