Hi, I just got my firs set of studio monitors and I am having trouble setting them up. My board has 2 stereo outs. One is rca left and right, the other is a single 1/4 in. output that says stereo out under it. The power amp has 2 1/4 in. inputs, one for each channel.

I tried using a 1/4 in. Y out of the single 1/4 inch out (on the board) and everything worked except I couldn't pan..The sound would disappear if I hard panned to the left..I check my speaker connections many time and nothing would help. Should I use an rca to 1/4 in. adapter on the rca outs? If I do this how can I hook up a DAT or cassette player. Oh yeah I also have mono outs in the same configuration.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

You need to get a stereo 1/4in to dual mono 1/4in Y cable. If you're using a mono 1/4in to dual mono 1/4in, you are essentially just splitting the signal from the right to both cables. The rca to 1/4in thing would work too.

Thanks gnarled, I thought the 1/4 Y I was using was stereo because the male end has 2 black rings around it instead of one..I was using it for 2 headphones and it worked fine. Doesn't that mean its stereo?

Thanks for the help!

When you pan right, do you still hear sound from both speakers?

Is your power amp bridged to mono???

Thanks gnarled..I got the Y cable 1 stereo to 2 mono and know it works great..Thanks.
