I would like to get out of the box for some EQ and compression needs. My thought is to mix in Cubase (I have SE), then send the 2-Buss out to some hardware (I'm thinking of starting with something like an Avalon 747 to have a Class A, tube comp, as well as some ability to high and low shelf EQ). I really only record jazz, so sonically, the tube comp seems like a decent direction.

Rather than rip the file to a stereo track in Cubase, I though it would be nice to get a control surface and be able to ride individual faders while I'm mixing down through the outboard gear and record it into Wavelab.

At the moment, my soundcard is a Delta 44. I don't record with it; I use an HD24 and dump the files into Cubase. The Delta is really only to get out to my monitors.

-Is it possible to configure the Delta 44 to send the 2-buss out on 1/2 and 3/4 at the same time? I need to monitor while I'm mixing down, obviously. I don't want to add a mixer if possible. I also need to get the signal back in the inputs at the same time.

-Is there a better soundcard that can handle this and sound better?

-Would the output from the 747 require additional gain (like having to go through a preamp) to go back into the soundcard?

Sorry if these are noobish - I've been an ITB guy - I need to get some of the basics of being hybrid. I think I'm ready since plug ins (even good ones) just don't give me what I hear in my head.

Thanks very much.

You should be able to set up another output buss and use the aux send on the main output to send the signal to the second one.

You should have no problem setting up the inputs on the Delta to record back into Cubase.

Thanks. I was able to set up another output buss, but I have no option for an aux send. I can only select the output to be 1/2 or 3/4. I can't see a way to have it be both.

There's other ways to skin the cat; but this seems like the best option if I can make it work.

Click on the 'e' button on the main output channel. That will open up a window that will have aux sends down the right side. If you click on one of the aux sends, you should be able to select the other output.

If you want to hear what you're doing you will need to monitor the channels being recorded not the master buss.
