Hello to all,
Name's TOMMy and new here. Decided to ask here vs. newbie forum since I read prod. review and was pointed to owners manual error on pg. 18.Felt I'd get a more product direct answer. Anyways , a simple question about cleaning the mk III. I bought an "audio brush" cassette cleaner/demagnetizer. In the manual it says of a cleaning "mode', and I'm concerned if this must be cleaned manually,[ with the fluid and hands], or can I go ahead and safely use this product from Radio Shack. Also can any of you "vets' recommend a specific book and/ or video that's made directly for the MK III since the lil' manual is not enough for a beginner like me and also afraid there might be more errors in there then already pointed out.
Thanks ahead for all help and hope to learn alot more from ya's as this is only my 1st day here and with my MK III. This is also my 1st real recorder and a lil' overwhelmed for now.
Take care,
TOMMY.. ..

Hey TommieIII ! I'd stay away from a Radio Shack cleaner/demagnetizer "brush" tape. May be too abrasive for the heads. I use Tascam (TEAC) cleaning fluid. You can order it online at www.americanmusicalsupply. com I believe. Follow the directions in the manual regarding putting the deck in a "cleaning" mode. Also, I have found the two Tascam Portastudio videos to be very helpful in learning how to use the deck. I got mine at american musical supply as well. There's a basic and advanced version, both of which give a great deal more information and "visuals" than does the manual. If amc no longer carries them I think you can order direct from www.tascam.com and they also have a forum exclusively addressing the 424MkIII. Check it out. Good luck!

Thanx DOC

I figured something wrong when I bought that cleaner/ demagnetizer cassette and reading the manual saying it has a cleaning mode and that the roller pushes out and others ; just don't sound right to slap a cleaner cassette in there. Also went ahead and ordered that beg. instr. video for the 424 mk III from Tascam. I also wrote them and asked if they we're aware of the error on pg. 18 of the manual and if so what was being done and would the video be correct. 30 bucks ain't exactly just chump change here. Back to learning.
Take care,
TOMMY.. ..
