oooh how i love the people on this forum. but anyway. you might try an evans SD dry, or the coated reverse powerdot, but DEFINITELY replace that snare side head ( my personal suggestion is evans hazy 300) , and maybe even your snares. in fact, if you haven't replaced all your resonant heads, by all means, do that as soon as you can afford to. I suggest evans G1's, but there's a lot of other heads that will do the job just fine.

it is on the second page of new post and the member is brx rad I think it is calling new recording with added kick mic

if his screen name is any indication, brx rad is using a pearl masters birch kit, and the masters line is a far cry from the exports, which would make a lot of difference right off the bat.

that aside, i agree with blackhawk on replacing the reso as well as throwing an SD dry on top.

but for no-fuss results, get a really good snare drum. toms and even most kick drums can be messed with to squeeze decent sounds out of. snares are pretty finicky though.

Big....Huge difference between Poplar and Maple. I had a feeling they weren't Maple, Export's are Pearl's bottom-of-the-line kits.

But, you knew that, right? I mean after all, you've been playing drums for 6 years.:D

lol I have been a drummer for almost 6 years so yea I tuned it good..
How about learning about humility.....and.....
my snare is a 14" pearl export ...its made of maple
Not shooting your mouth off if you don't know what you're saying....before preaching about "getting people skills".

Learning a little about grammar and puncuation wouldn't hurt either, if you want to get picky.:)

Export snares are more then likely 14x5.5" shells, poplar.

As far as new heads, change both sides, especially since you still have your stock snareside head.

Right now my combination is Remo Coated CS Dot over hazy Ambassador.

rami made some legit points here.

you've made 15 posts here.

listen and learn--it'll help you in the long run. i'm not being a jerk, i'm just trying to help.

Of all the drums on your kit, the most difficult and time consuming drum to tune is the snare drum. Very often you can tune almost any head to get it to sound better and most of the time, the thing that you'll screw up the worst is the resonator head and the positioning of the snare wires. Besides getting the tune on the snares side, you have to be very careful that you get the rim seated so it doesn't interfere with the snare wires. I've seen that as a major problem with snare tuning.
There isn't a right or wrong way to tune the notes (timber) of the heads on your snare, each way will give you a different sound. I suggest that if you've been playing around with it and tuning and tuning it and you don't like wht you're getting, start fresh with two new heads, either an Evans or a Remo coated ambassador on the top and a good medium weight Evans or Remo resonator on the bottom. I assume that you are a heavy hitter, so go with at least a medium weight, You might want to try a wider set of wires also. Then spent a longtime tuning it up and also try tuning it with your mic (totally flat with no EQ) on it and headphones so you can see if it will give you the sound you want when you record.
Then just work it out.

no sarcasm is the talk of a smart ass..don't worry about my grammar.I didn't deserve sarcasim I just stated that I was not a at beginner of drums you on the other hand you thought it was a perfect time to say something sarcastic...oh and by the way export is not pearls lowest kit..take a look at the pearl sound checks. You wanna argue but I am not arguing.there is not point you think you know it all.

you think you know it all.

No, I'm well aware I don't know it all, and don't pretend that I do.

You, on the other hand, claim that playing for "almost 6 years" makes you an expert in tuning drums.

You also tried to come off like you know something you don't about what your own snare drum is made of, Einstein.

I think it's quite obvious who the phony know-it-all is. Take your foot out of your mouth and think before you post again, you've already made enough of a fool of yourself.:p

Listen to this guy. He knows a whole lot more than both of us.

drossfile, rami, and greg, i applaud your efforts. and on the tuning, there are a lot of guys around here who've been playing 20+ years, and their drums are always tuned like shit. Theres a kid around here who's been playing for 8 or 9 months now, and his drums sound like a chorus of angels. the key? bob gatzen. get on youtube and look for bob gatzen's tuning videos jammer. Probably one of the best things you'll ever do.

EDIT: by around here, i mean guys that live in my area, not guys on this forum, though i'm sure that's true, too.

Also, see how long you've been here? see how long they've been here? see your rep power? see theirs? see your number of posts? see theirs? just something to think about. These guys are a lot older than either of us, and have seen the ropes. my suggestion would be to take their word on it and listen to them. there's a lot you can learn from these guys. you just gotta not get cocky with 'em.

exactly my point rami. i've got a lot of respect for all you guys, and you guys have helped me out a lot. the rep power, posts, and how long you've been here all just kind of show that you guys have got some experience under your belts and know what you're talking about, which is the point i was trying to make.

That's really my only beef. Age, rep power, and posts are secondary. But don't come in here with a know-it-all attitude and then accuse someone else of exactly that.

I didn't come in with that attitude..you got sarcastic instead of saying I am pretty sure they are not made of maple..you said I am 99% sure its not I WIN..that was uncalled for..I know that you have alot more experience then me I never claimed that I knew more.the reason I am on the site is to learn..everyone that has help me in the past has been understanding and nice..I I have a lot of respect for them. There are a lot of good and experienced people on this site you being one of the Rami.I would like to learn stuff from you and everyone else on the site. But I need the same courtesy from you as everyone else on this site.I am not here to argue I am here to learn.I started my whole recording project a year ago.I have a lot of people to think for the progress that I made.I would appreciate it that in the future that if you respond to one of my threads do it in the way that it is courteous.I don't know if you realize how sarcastic your answers are.Go about it a different way and we will get along better

Fair enough, man. We got off on the wrong foot. No hard feelings.

I'm surprised that the thing that bothered you the most was "I WIN". That was obviously a joke. I guess I didn't put enough smileys after it. Do you really think I was serious about "winning" anything just because you were 98% sure, and I was 99% sure??? If so, that was a major mis-understanding.

As far as my "sarcasm" is concerned, I think you can lighten up a bit. Greg asked you some relevant questions and you came back with "I've been playing drums for almost 6 years, so yea they're tuned good". Sorry, but that deserved at least a little sarcasm. I'm not going to change my sense of humor because of someone getting too sensitive over it.

Let's move on. I think you got some good advice in this thread by others that are able to help you on this particular subject.

I have a lot of rep power, but don't let that fool you. It's not because I know anything. :D

Holy shit, man. I'm really really sorry to hear that. I don't know what else to say, but my heart hurts just reading that. I wish you all the strength in the world, and hope you have the strength to help your wife get through it too.
