Need Help Building A Home Studio

Hello everyone...I need some help building a home recording studio. I am a singer/songwriter of RnB music. I usually record in a studio that my friend owns but would like to start recording at my home. I am on a very limited budget so I would like to know what are the very basics that I need to record a good demo. I want the least equipment I can get away with for now because I dont have a lot of money but I dont want my demo to sound like trash of course. Thank you for any help.

Welcome to the board!

I think maybe you posted this in the wrong forum. It sounds as if you are asking about equipment more than about designing and building the studio itself.

Of course, if you want a good sounding demo, treating your room to improve the sound is part of the equation as much as getting the necessary equipment to record it.

If you have gear questions, you should post in the appropriate forum. This post might get more response if you put it in the "Newbies" forum.

Hmmmm, sounds pretty clear to me. Hello brooke. What would you like to know. When you say "build", exactly what are you talking about? Modifying a room for isolation? Building a studio from the ground up? Acoustically treating an existing space? We need information to help you. Reading minds isn't as easy as its made out to be

Ok...by "building a home studio" I mean I have nothing as of yet that I need to record my demo. No treatment to my room, no equipment. Nothing. So yea...basically, im strarting from scratch.

Hello brooke. Well, in that case I have to agree with Ted. Personally, I wouldn't spend too much in the beginning. Untill you get a few techniques under your belt and familiarization with your equipment, there is no sense in building a room. There is however, a reason for setting up a monitoring position correctly no matter what kind of equipment or room. Once you get your gear, then you can better see what you are working with as far as space goes. There are tons of threads and websites illustrating room layouts etc. We would be happy to help you at that point. But this all depends on where you are at with the recording process, as far as engineering goes, and your budget.

While it's true that you don't want to start by building a room, you can help yourself a lot by selecting a good room and positioning your equipment properly within that room. Can you tell us about the room(s) you have available?
