I'm basically just looking for some kind of guidance in the right direction . I started out a few months ago using a cheap uni-directional mic and acid screenblast 4.0 . I was just messing around putting a instrumental on and recording over it . I'm now thinking about getting real serious with it but i have no idea where to start , i do have a MCA SP1 condenser mic and a new but cheap dell PC i plan to use for the sole purpose of making music . I want to be able to make the music sound studio fresh but once again have no idea where to start . I plan on spending between $600-$900 but i plan on buying what i need one piece at a time . Im looking for somethin easy to use but very quality efficient . I'm asking for any tips or advice as far as sound cards , mixers , mics , pre-amps , recording software , etc. , and what i should buy first and learn how to use . I appreciate any feedback and thanks 4 your time , hope to hear some replies . thanks again

The music is hip-hop , rap , whatever u wanna call it , and my room is extremely small but the desk i have for my computer has a big amount of space cleared out for whatever equipment i need and i have a corner of the room designated for the hopes of eventually building a vocal booth , thank you

with a condesor mic, even the cheapo uni-direc one u got,

money isnt going to buy what your looking for...I mean sure, people may suggest some items, (you may need a good mixer if your condensor mic needs Phantom Power) but a good knowledge of "mixing" is what will help you the most...

Search this site and the web for these terms...

-> Compression on/of Vocals

->EQ (of vocals) Paragraphic EQ's Parametric EQ's..

->Panning

->Delay

Ill drop some good links to read up to...

anyone else feel free to suggest anything else...

it's hard to tell you where to start, but I definitely agree with Crispy. A good knowledge of what you are doing will get better results than new equipment. I know some guys w/ great equip who's recordings are not too good, and then there are people who use the cheap stuff they have to get some decent tracks. but anyways.....if i was starting.......i think i would get a good soundcard and some good software first. m-audio delta is supposed to be a good multi input PCI card....alot of people like Sonar by Cakewalk and Cubase SX3.....SL3 is also cheaper and can do alot of the same stuff. You could also use a real cheap program until you learn the basics and such. The Acid thing you have may be fine for you for quite some time. Especially if you are just doing audio tracks. Ummmmm.....yeah, so I guess that is all I can think of to say to you.....I'm sure more will chime in with some good advice, so read the replies and also search the archives to read about recording....there is a ton of good info on these boards....good luck

ps-if you decide what you want to buy, search the archives for advice (eg- if i want a new new condenser that's cheap i might type "cheap condersor" or "budget condensor" or "which condensor" .....stuff like that)

thanks to all those who replied so far , im taking advice as it comes and will deffinitely give it a try , hope to hear some more input , again thanks guys
