I've been recording and mixing for a couple of years now and there is on term i still cant understand. How wide is an octave in terms of frequency? I know one octave is twelve notes. Is it like 100hz wide, or what? I just cant understand it..!

I've been using equalization since my first recording on almost every track.
And i think iv'e got the hang of it..
But still...

I would like to know if there is a specific rule. Mabey i'ts width varies..
Please explain this to me!

An octave is twice as high (or half as low) as the given frequency. Middle A is 440 Hz. An octave higher is 880 Hz, while an octave lower is 220 Hz.
