i have an old dr-550 drum machine. I recently used it to trigger an alesis d4 for snare sounds. I used the kicker and toms on the dr-550, and the snare sound on the d4. i use 3 tracks for drums: kicker, snare, cymbals. I really haven't researched drum machines yet, but it would be great if i could trigger some toms, a kicker, and a snare. I plan to get a good level of snare and toms and put those on one track, the kicker on one track, and cymbals on the third track. I'd need more outputs on a drum amchine. Any of you know of such a machine? I like simplicity.

quick edit: would i be better off just getting an up to date drum machine, and selling the dr-550 and alesis d4? I'm curious about the sounds on the new machines - feel free to fill me in on that. The d4 sounds really good to me.

Hi,
geee...my beautiful old RX machine had multi-outs, enabling me to do what you're saying.
Have you googled drum machines?

Remember, drum machines (hardware types), are like drummers.....you'll either like them, or you won't. Chances are the ones you like the sounds of will be stereo, and the ones you dislike will have multi-outs!! :D

I still have my R8 and Linn which are multi outs, and which I bought new back in the 80's. I don't know if you're in the market or the mindset to get away from the hardware, but you might want to look at BFD. There's a cool deal here-

It would definitely solve all the output and triggering things you could throw at it. I've been using bfd for a few years and I'll probably never power up the R8 or Linn again.

Definitely check out BFD drums (software). I was very impressed with them at AES, and they're now on my get list.
