I have for drum recording---

(2) meek jm27 for overheads...
SM57 for snare...
CAD 412 & ddrum trigger on Kick...
old CAD nk1 for Hi hats...

I can only spend 100 or so dollars on some tom mics....

I was looking at an ebay special on some 3 Superlux FT4 tom mics and clips for $90.

Also, Samson makes a 3 peice Q-tom kit with clips for 90 as well.

Should I go for one of these? Or can yall recommend something around that price that is better maybe??

thanks,

I'd guess that some of those SM57 knockoffs (I forget who makes them) might be a little better than a cheap drum mic kit. Not great, but probably a little better.

I'd just place the overheads differently so they capture the toms more, or so they capture the whole kit with good balance. I don't think adding a 30 dollar mic on each tom is going to help your sound.

yea....the GLS ES57.....3 pack for nearly $90 as well.

Is that the better choice for toms ?

Believe it or not, the Samson mics sound really great for the price. Just don't hit them with a stick, or they will explode.

Cheers,
Zach

First mics ever made from chalk, eh?

I like the GLS ES-57s!! Great mic for the money!

CAD just came out with some uber-cheap drum mics that aren't bad.

Cheap cheap.
