I'm looking for a decent, inexpensive synthesizer. Anyone have any suggestions on what to look at? What not to get? Is $200 for a roland JV-30 a good deal? I plan on buying used off of ebay/homerec/local stores.

If it's in good shape all the way around and not gigged too much, it is a good deal. Make sure your seller is an adult non-smoker and you'll probably be safe.

What type of synth are you looking for? A rather underappreciated, but quite capable synth is the Redsound DarkStar. It's got good presence and can be quite rude :) I'd suggest you check it out if you're looking for an inexpensive VA synth.

I checked out the darkstar and it looked pretty cool, but i would need to by e seperate midi controler to use it would i not? Also the jv-30 was snatched up with buy it now literallly an hour before I was able to put my bid on it :mad: . any other suggestions?

do you need midi?
i really like my korg-poly6, but its cv gate..
it gets a wide range of great sounds... ($250 e-bay)

might be able to get a beat up kurzweil 2000s for that price (if youre lucky)

yeah, i think im looking for something midi. One i've been looking at lately is the yamaha cs2x. any opinions on this synth? keep the suggestions comming.

CS2X = Rompler Crap

Look at late 80's early 90's stuff. Should be cheap and there are some really cool keyboards that came out in that period (Korg Wavestation, DW8000, all the yamaha SY keyboards). Since then, all the GM midi stuff kinda sounds the same

And the SY series weren't?

Get serious.
Agreed, Yamaha only really started making decent synths with the S and MOTIF series (Short of the old DX's which were kool in there own right).

You might have a go at trying to find a Korg X or N series. Not the best by todays standards, but quite capable none-the-less, and usually pretty cheap these days.

Hey, I'll stand by all of Yamahas FM synths (SY=FM synth, not rompler) but I happen to be a big fan of FM synthesis in general from DX on up. I do alot of ambient soundscape stuff and do most of my own programing so there is alot of it in my stuff but it may sound a little dated to everyone else :P

If you want a good modern synth then just save up for a nord lead (they are worth it) or a micron/ion

I have an Older M1r Synth

Ill sell to you for $150.00 Interested>?

The roland juno-d is a great synth. It has middi and you also get software so you can edit the sounds. I have one, I also use it as a controller two for soft synths.
