i know this is in a thread of mine a little down on the page but i need to know soon because its an auction. anyways,
what do you think about this computer. i want to get the best for my money and this seems to be pretty good. it's pretty much the stuff ive been looking for and this is cheaper than if i were to put it together myself. anyways let me know what you think.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=3412298276

and also what is the difference between pc2100 ram and pc2700 ram. thanks

Can't see the link. I still think you should put one together, because from the other systems you displayed, the only name brand part was the hard drive. I would feel more comfortable knowing what exactly goes into my machine. PC2700 is faster RAM than PC2100.

yea and pc3200 to 400mhz...

which brings me to a question...
does your motherboard and/or cpu have to support this much performance in order for the RAM to actually run at these higher speeds? or does it operate completely separately and indifferently?

Now you're getting into the nuts and bolts of computer building. The memory should definately be matched to the motherboard. Also, the computer you are looking at has a VIA chipset. There hae been problems with these in the past with Delta sound cards. If I were you, I would be looking at some reviews for whichever sound card you will be using and see if there are any things you need to know before you buy a computer.

The motherboard and cpu have to support it.
No that's not really true. I'm not sure if they exist for the latest cpu's but there have been chipsets in the past that could run cpu and memory async. So in that case the cpu would be running at 266 and the memory at 333. Not very common though.

ok so i guess if i am making my own, my final decision on parts are:

Qty Product Item # Unit Price Qty x Price

ENERMAX Model# FS-501BBS (BLACK/SILVER) ATX 10-BAY MID-TOWER CASE w/ POWERUP 300W P-4 POWER SUPPLY - RETAIL

Lite On 52x24x52 Black CDRW Model LTR-52246 OEM Access

Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM Hard Drive Model # 6Y080L0 - OEM, DRIVE ONLY

Crucial Micron 512MB 64x64 PC2100 DDR RAM, 184-Pin, CL=2.5-Unbuffered 2.5V, 6-Layers

ASUS P4PE/L Motherboard for Intel P4 478 Retail w/ Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, Onboard LAN, SoundMAX Digital Audio System

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 MX440SE

TERRATEC EWS88D soundcard.

Please let me know what you think. thanks

hey does anyone happen to know if there is any where cheaper than newegg.com for computer parts. thats where i am currently looking to make this purchase. thanks

You could go to www.pricewatch.com, but you're parts will come from different retailers. IMHO, I don't think $30 (approx. the amount you'll save) is worth the hassle.

This may be a stupid question but im a begginer to computer stuff. What does OEM mean

I would avoid the enermax case and power supply and go with a zalman quiet power supply (with whatever case you want). I have an enermax and they are not as 'whisper quiet' as they claim.

I would swap the maxtor for a seagate barracuda IV or V as they are significantly quieter and fast enough for your needs.

I would look into getting a zalman heat sink fan. A zalman cnps6500 or 7000 would be virtually silent. The CPU cooler is probably the loudest component in a PC.

Noise is a major consideration when building a pc for a home studio. You dont want to hear your pc in your recordings or annoying you when you mix. Using these components will make a huge difference to the noise levels of your PC.
