Its for recording mainly vocal and guitar for hopefully both live and studio work. I probably want an sm 58 but does anyone have a cheaper alternative?

Here are some I found on the 8th Street Music site

  • [*]AKG D880: $70
    [*]Audio-Technica MB1000: $30
    [*]Behringer XM8500A: $20
    [*]Electro-Voice N/D-167: $75
    [*]Roland DR-10: $49
    [*]Roland DR-20: $69
    [*]Samson R21: $49 (for three)
    [*]Samson R11: $69 (for three)
    [*]Shure PG48: $29
    [*]Shure PG57: $49
    [*]Shure PG58: $49

I've never tried any of them, but they do all meet your criteria.

THanks i'm from the uk 2. I was looking 4 someone that would have more experience witha cheaoer mic and could recommend it

Damn. I wish you'd mentioned that. Now I feel stupid for assuming you were a Yank. :(

Bet you thought I was from america too? :D

Well... I am HALF american :P

I just find it easier with bbs to assume EVERYONE is from the USA: unless they state otherwise.

1 Post to go

I guess a lot of them are. Can you mention my name in the 1000th post? Just so I feel special :D Haha

And now you're assuming Mark's a boy. I would say something, but I think I'd probably end up in a ditch somewhere near Brighton

You can normally get a used Shure SM57 for about $40... get a Shure SM57.

Thanks, i think i will is ther much difference between the 2?

They're pretty close... the differenent grills make them a little different... the SM57 is perferred over the SM58 in most cases, except sometimes maybe live vocals. Get the Shure SM57. ;)

Well, I was going to save this post for something special. But, I guess I might as well use it for this

How much do you want to spend (upper limit. In £ Sterling, thank you)?

well i'm not special? (:-(). I could aford an sm 58 but was hoping someone would know a cheaper version, as in the uk they are not $40 they are $120

DJL meant find one used. The 57s retail for $80 in the States, the 58s for $90. I often see the 57s for $50 used. I would buy a 57.
