I'm using a 424 mkIII. I want to get out as cheap as I can, and if there's any way i can use my stereo, I'll do it. I'll worry about quality later. :o

You can mixdown to any recording device with a line in. So, if your stereo has a cassette deck or CD burner either of those will work. You can also mixdown to your computer if you have a wav recorder/editor. There are some free wave editors on the net.

Oh, sweet, thanks, that's what I was hoping. Now for my next stupid question: exactly what type of cord do those line in/out jacks use?

Looks like the Tascam uses RCA type connectors on the line out. You will have to look at your mixdown deck to see what type of line in connector it has. If it is something other than RCA (e.g., 1/8 in stereo) you can get an adapter to make it work

With this setup, you should not overlook the options available by mixing down to Hi-Fi vcr......nice because you can add in video while you record your mix. And the quality will far surpass ANY cassette deck. Hi-Fi vcr is considered "near-cd quality" with no wow-and-flutter like a cassette has. You can get 2 hours of hi-quality on one tape..... I used to do this all the time, sounds great when you play it back thru the stereo at parties, and you have Star Wars video showing with your music!!

Only thing you have to watch is make sure you buy the best quality tapes you can find. The cheap discount tapes at Target will have brief spots of static and drop out in them.
