Hello all,

Need some advice on a new mic. My budget is $1,700. I have a pretty high voice, somewhere between Enrique Iglesias and Daniel Beddingfield. I work on dance/pop tracks where I stretch out words and hit a lot of high notes. My current setup is FL Studio, an RME Fireface 800, GT Brick preamp and an AT 4040 mic and Shure SM7B mic. The 4040 is a little too bright on my voice, and the Shure SM7B is a little too dull. Would like to get a mic that ties in well with the Brick premap and the Fireface A/D and gives a smooth sound. I'm willing to try a few mics out. I've read good things about the following: Rode K2, AT 4060, AKG 414, but I'm thinking maybe I bypass these and go for the Neumann U87. Would love to get your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

If you think the 4040 is too bright, then you're likely going to think a U87 is too bright as well. I've never tried a K2 or a 4060 (have heard good things about that one though), but I've never liked the 414 on vocals. You might look at the ADK Hamburg II-AU or the Vienna II-AU mics. Dollar for dollar, I think ADK is making some of the best mics around.

Both of those run about $1100. Good luck!
