Hey guys, if you're not too busy maybe you could help me out.

Go to this site www.thomann.de and select Irish as your nationality (for import duty purposes).

Pick out a guitar for less than 350 euro (just over 500 bucks)

I have two telecasters at the moment, so I'm warming to something with humbuckers but with good build quality.

Thanks!

The second one is the one that Chris Harris got his son, unless I am mistaken. Unless I am mistaken...wtf does that mean?

I'd also look at the Artcore series, or the Epiphone Dot.

Cheers, and happy hunting.

Thanks man. I was looking at Epiphones but I really don't know much about the build quality. I was thinking of Les Paul if I do go epiphone

The build quality on Epis is hit and miss, but Thomann gives you 30 days to return for full refund if you don't like it. I recently went through this with them over two defective Martin 000-15s. Their service was prompt and efficient, and the bank transfer (my refund) was initiated by them as soon as they got the 2nd one back. Personally, I think the best bang for the buck is the Artcore.

Cheers,

Did you get the d15 okay in the end?

Did you get the d15 okay in the end?

Yeah, but it has a couple of problems that need a luthier.

The 1st string is, for lack of a better word, 'snappy.' The action is a little high as well, and I tried sanding the saddle down a mm, which made the E string snappier. I had to go back and put a shim back in the bridge to raise the height again. I am a little disappointed, and I can't send it back because A) I've taken the plastic off the pickguard, and B) I've already put a ding on it. I am just going to have to suck it up and pay for it to be properly set up. I am confident that once that happens, I'll love the D-15.

Cheers,

Yeah, action on mine is a little high right now. And 6 months after I bought it I had to get it adjusted, but it wasn't a big job.

Ta nico but what's alder/mahogany about?

i don't know. the epiphone site says all the studios are all mahogany. i couldn't find one that had alder in it too. but a friend bought an epiphone lp studio and it was really good for the price. i'm sure as has been stated that their quality varies but my friend got a really good one.

i was looking for an epiphone lp goddess to recommend but they apparently don't make those. :(

Oh yeah? Just full-on Gibson versions? Ah decisions decisions. I need to pick a christmas present for myself.

Hey Paul-I think you will like adding a Les Paul style to you're guitar harem--or collection, whatever you call it. I chose one a slight bit over the 350 euros-well 5 euros anyway-but it looks a lot like my Gibson 'the Paul' before I painted the top white.
The Epi looks good though-----see picture below ;)

Hey Tony!!! That's the exact one I chose! (see my reply to MK Ultra). I'm jsut worried about how it'll play/sound, I know it's the lower end of scale.

I find them a little neck heavy but I'll keep it in mind Greg!

What about this guy? it has a bucker in the bridge

http://www.thomann.de/index.html?partner_id=97926&page=ie/yamaha_pacifica_412vnt.htm

SGs are good guitars also-I had a couple of them years ago but I found I like the more solid neck joint that a les Paul single cutaway offers. Really the main thing is find a guitar you feel comfortable with and stick with it.

The older Pacifica Strats were really good guitars-and the versatility of a bridge humbucker on a strat makes it a killer guitar for live performance. I have a Frankenstrat that I pieced together with a Tele neck on a Fernandes body with a DiMarzio PAF in the bridge that has been my main gigging and recording guitar for over 10 years now.

However the scale length of 24-3/4" on a Gibson does give the guitar a different sound that a Fender 25-1/2" won't have-Fender will be brighter and less compressed sounding than a Gibson...go out and play a few of each then let that decide for you.
