Okay. Be Patient. I have many questions. I have been recording on a Fostex FD 8 for a year now. I mix down to an old Aiwa Dat. Thought if I bought a CD burner, a new sound card, and some software, I could master the Dat(final mix) to CD using my P.C. It certainly needs mastering. Should I do this? If so, which Soundcard, burner and software should I buy? Heard about this Echo, "Gina card... And if I do this, should I just start recording straight through the P.C? Would I need Much more hardware?software? Wouldnt the soundcard need an Xlr input for my mic? Also, The digital in/out on my dat player is an RCA jack, but the FD8 has an optical in/out, so I mix down out of the FD 8's anolog stereo out,and into into the anolog in on the DAT. Does this mean I am compromising the Digital benifits of mixing to DAT? And what adapter would I need to remedy the problem? Someone told me it doesnt matter Thanx for your time, I hope someone can spare the time to help. I will save my zillion other questions for another time....Just reading your reply to other postings have helped answer so many questions already....

Do U want to master a CD??? or just burn it??

If U want to burn it then great, thats fine. But if your DAT has digi I/O then make sure that U get a soundcard that supports that.

If U want to master it, get it done by a pro, because mastering is a complicated process that U can't just pick up by using the newest version of an app........ I'm not really sure how much U could get out of mastering it yourself, no offense to U, I can't do it either, just your client would be better off with a guy who does mastering on a regular basis.
