My son is in the Navy. He and a couple of his bandmates/shipmates came home to our house for the holiday weekend. This is one of the tunes they have been working on. Im not into the "scream metal" , but the tune has kind of grown on me. Anyway here is the tune link and lyrics. The band is called "Nocturnal Madness", the song is "Before the Fall". All you scream, goth, death metal heads let me know what you think.

"BEFORE THE FALL"

http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=8062655&q=hi

VISIONS OF LIFE BECOMING CLEAR
NAUSEATING HIGH
LITHIUM FILLS THE ROOM
SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL
THE LACK OF AIR TO BREATHE
PANIC ATTACK INCREASES
WOULD THE OTHER SIDE
COMFORT ME AT ALL
THE RUSH OF THE BLADE PIERCES THE DARK

SEE ME THROUGH THE LIGHT
COME TO MY SALVATION
SALVATION

SANCTUARY FOR THE INSANE
BEFORE THE FALL EVERYTHING SO NUMB
SO COLD AND DARK
HELP ME FIND MY WAY THROUGH THIS
LIVING HELL

I CAN’T BREATE AT ALL
HOPES AND DREAMS ARE CRUSHED
ALONE WITH MY SANITY
TAKE THIS HELL
EVER TO CEASE
NAUSEATING NIGHTMARES
VISIONS OF WHAT ONCE WERE
NEVER MORE TO COME
HERE TO LIVE ALONE
INSIDE WITH ALL OF THIS PAIN

SEE ME THROUGH THE LIGHT
COME TO MY SALVATION
SALVATION

I SEE
TO TAKE A LOST ROAD
THAT HAS LED ME
TO A PLACE OF INDESCRIBABLE PAIN
PAIN PAIN PAIN

I do like this type of music when I'm in the mood but in this case I don't care for the vocal. The music is pretty good but a little slow for what I was expecting.

I really dont listen to it at all. Id rather go to the dentist. :) But they asked to record and I cant turn them down. I actually like the vocal on this than most other "Cookie Monster" music.

The growler/screamer sounds very talented. I get a big Mikael Akerfeldt (from Opeth) vibe from him. His low growls are pretty inhumanly low (and very easy to understand) and and his higher screams sound very natural and not forced. The chorus/whatever effect on the vocal sounds a little over the top to me, but I kind of like it that way in the context of the song.

The drums sound pretty good, as do the bass and guitars. I do think the bass is a little high in the mix compared to the guitars.

My only other criticism would be that the clean singing definitely needs some work, but in general the song is good and the performance is good.

I dig.

Thanks. Yes, I definately need to lower the bass a few and maybe up the guitar. I'll render a new mix and see how lowering the bass effects things. The vocals have some pitch problems during the "normal voice", and I hope to get those fixed too. I guess they are all planning on spending the first week of December at our house (my son and all the band/shipmates) and recording everything they have worked up by then. A week with a bunch of drunken sailors!!! Should be fun !!!! I bet by the end of the week I'll be nuts.

Not enough bass drum clicks for the genre?
Deep voice Sounds a bit like a slow version of stepping stone in parts.
Amusing.
Good capture and mix - I like the bass where it is.
I'm not a fan of the aluminium foil bass drum sound or the sperm curdling vocals.

You and me both on the vocals !!!! Give me that old school metal !!!! Scorpions, Priest, UFO, Sabbath, etc.

the kick punches through plenty for me - more top end and it'll sound way too artificial. besides the tempo is pretty slow, and really doesn't require the whole typewriter sounding kick.

the vocals are really weird, but definitely original, which is something you don't see a lot now in metal...dude reminds me a lot of type o when singing

i would prob. ditch some of the FX on the vox during those higher-pitched screams though...just seems like a bit much

Kick sounds OK to me, nice click and punchiness. I would tame the bass a little bit. Guitars are panned too centered for me, maybe you could spread the sound field by panning'em hard roght and hard left.

Thanks for the replies. When they come back up in December, I imagine the whole tune will get redone. The gutarist will be with them. As far as the effects on the vocals, its what they wanted. The distorted guitars were panned hard left and right, but the clean were not. I'll listen to them panned more. Im looking foward to hearing what other tunes they come up with. Eveb though its not my thing. :)
