I think Project Bluebook would tell you these are probably the result of atmospheric conditions. Mirages. Reflections off the water. What you see here is not really a microphone. Its just a formation of birds ...or a weather balloon.

I don't think the mic in the 2nd picture is the same mic as in the 1st picture. The mic in the 2nd picture is probably a 414. Not that sure about the mic in the 1st picture. We use the MXL Cube in exactly the same position on our drums. Plus, the first pictured mic looks way to fat to be a 414.

I was with you on that at first...but the C414 was photographed at an angle just making it look fatter like the Cube...but in his pictures you can make out the AKG and the multipatern switch...and the angle once enlarged...the cube seems too big to be that mic in the picture.

right enough,,,the black line round the top of the mxl isn't in any of the pictures,

OK, I looked at the picture and enlarged it - way up. It's NOT an MXL cube; most likely, as others have said, it's a 414EB The light line (which I thought separated the grill halves) in the picture is misleading. The mic is actually angled.

Congrats to everybody that correctly identified it.

Well you did raise the stock of the MXL Cube by telling us you use them for overheads...but also lowered stock on the AKG for the connection to Amy Winehouse...lol.
