I am gonna spice this place up a bit!! Im gonna menage a trois a few different topics here.

My singer is a total fucking tool. We are a new band that has been together for about 3 months, and we meet about once a week. Every time we get together, we crank out workable versions of at least 1.5 songs, and a crap version of 1.5. However, the singer has yet to produce ANY lyrics to our material, citing a lack of a sound as his major excuse.

Topic 1: Listen to the two tracks at the bottom. The first is a song he says he wants for a sound. Its one fucking chord over and over again!
The second is one we want to do, but he just can't get there. :( So, songwriters and singers.....how fucking hard is this? Any good ideas to share to maybe light a fire under his ass?

Topic 2: You will notice these mixes suck. The mixdowns were done in 5 minutes, so i haven't spent much time because i have been working so much. What are your thoughts? What would you do to liven it up?There are some obvious musical flubs, but we were just doing this to give our fag singer something to write to while he wasnt with us.

Topic 3: My wife is an inhuman she-beast! I want to leave her, but we are up to our ears in mortgage and car payments jointly, any advice?

Topic 4: Just finished the new Tool album. Awesome!!!
Singer wants to go THIS way
we want to go this way

I may have reversed these, the "punkier" one is the :( one.

I knew it - no nekked women! Ripped Off again!

Anyway, I guess I should listen while I'm here.....lol

If I were trying to write lyrics and a melody I would choose the one called joe's song because it was a) lower key sounding b) flowed nicely c) simple patterns that the vocals can work around.

The second tune - fun jam - was busier with guitar leads which made it harder to hear the basic pattern to work around. Not a bad tune just not as easy to work with.

Perhaps you could simplify the jam song, give him some time to work with it then add back the leads once the vocals are done.

No advice on your marital and financial situation, sorry :o :o :p ;) :) :)

I liked the second one....it needs to be clearer to hear wha tthe whole rhythm is up to, but I kind of get the idea. Words to something like this wouldn't be hard at all. What's it sound like to you? What feelings, or thoughts run through your mind when you hear it? I always right to the dark side. Just something I like. Some people want happy.....put a thought in your mind, and go with it.

yeah, all the mixes are busy. Thats just hasty set up with an unfamiliar program. I was really surprised at how good it came out, even if it does suck.

You chose her, you deserve her.

The simple song would certainly be easier to write vocals too, but I think unless your singer comes up with some really cool melody (which it doesn't sound like he will...) it might just be too boring. The other one is already a cool song, and I'm a firm believer that a song should be good to listen to even without vocals, especially in this genre. Your vocalist will just need to suck it up and learn how to write along with a lead guitar line. I do, however, like the suggestion above where you give him a track with no lead guitar and then add it in later. One or both of the parts may need to be changed afterwards though, to make sure they work together. It should give you a starting point anyway.

Hey djhead,

I listened to both tracks and I think with the right melody and lyrics either tune has the potential to be rocking tunes.

I went through a similar dilemma with our original singer in a band we all formed and he would not show any dedication or put any effort into creating melodies and lyrics to anything he wasn't remotely interested in. He even was writing lyrics while we were in the studio recording a song that we were laying down for a radio station Metal Show!

The point I am trying to get across is that eventually we were getting held back big time by the lack of input and enthusiasm from our singer, so we replaced him with someone who had stronger frontman skills involving the writing of lyrics and melodies and we had some great success with this move!

If he is dragging your band down, have a look around and if you find someone more committed and suited sack his ass!

Gorty :)
