I just got my Nady Ribbon from Musicians Friend last night and went to put in on a mic stand to try out and the damn thing doesn't fit. The adapter is too big, and the threads don't catch at all, it just sits over the fitting on the mic stand loosely. Anyone else have this problem with their Nady? I'm thinking it's a one off thing since I haven't heard anyone complain about it.

Anyway, I plugged it in and tried it out and was pretty happy with the sound. It didn't eat as much gain as I expected, about 50dB on a mediumish guitar amp, about 55 db for vox. I tried it out in M-S and the front and back on mine were close enough that it worked, although maybe the stereo image would be wider if they were exactly matched. Overall pretty satisfied with the sound of the mic, just wish I could get it on a mic stand without fear of it falling off. :o

Mine fits just fine on those cheap On-Stage stands that MF sells.

Are you saying that you have a European-style mic stand with the 3/8" (9.5 mm with an adapter to American-style threads (5/8", or 15.9 mm) and the adapter is loose on your stand's threads? Or are you saying that the Nady's built-in mic clip is loose on your stand?

The Nady swivel thing is a 5/8" fine mic thread, so if your stand is 3/8" and you don't have one of those little adapter discs screwed onto the stand, you're going to have problems. If, however, you have one of those and it isn't gripping on the stand, try screwing it onto the stand first, then screwing the mic onto that.

I've got the Apex equivalent of these mics - the swivel mount fits the mic stand properly.

The difference between 5/8 and 3/8 should be obvious, not just loose. If your other mic clips are ok, I'd say the mount is machined oversize.

Also, I think the thread is non-standard. 5/8 National Fine is 18 threads per inch. National Coarse is 11 threads. I'm not exactly sure offhand what a mic stand thread is, but there is a non-standard 5/8 that has 27 threads. Going from memory, I *think* that's what it is.

I'd take it back and try it on one of their mic stands, / check another mic / get it replaced.

I'm aware of the 5/8" vs 3/8" thing, the adapter on the Nady is like 11/16th" just big enough so that the threads don't grab. I called Musicians Friend and they gave me a return authorization number, even though I have to pay return shipping (and give back my pop screen "gift"). I'm getting a shinybox one for $175 shipped, so I guess I'm still up $15 bucks. Too bad, the mic sounded pretty damn good.
