I downloaded the free version of n-track to test it out to see if it fits my needs . . . .

I'm trying to record through a microphone (audio) various instruments (guitar, bass, various percussion), and for some reason I have not been able to get the metronome to work.

I clicked the metronome icon, set it to "PC speakers" (not MIDI device), and set it for playback AND recording.

But, for some reason, I don't hear any metronome clicks when I record or playback. My speakers work (I can hear my recorded tracks fine). Any thoughts or suggestions!!?

You need to set it to MIDI. "PC Speaker" refers to the little speaker that beeps when you start most machines. Your might not have a PC Speaker, it might be disabled, or it just plain might not work.

You'll need to use MIDI, assuming your soundcard does MIDI.

You know what though...........I think that the metronome might be crippled in the unregistered version of n-Track. What I said above is still true, but the metronome might not work at ALL in the unregistered version.

Thanks for the reply....

that complicates things a bit, I suppose. It's worth a shot thru midi. I have a midi-friendly casio keyboard and a few patch cords. What else do I need for midi capabilities?? (e.g., how do I hook my keyboard into the computer?)

I know it's a really dumb question, but, hey, I must be really dumb!

Umm....you don't need to hook anything special up. I'm assuming that you're using a consumer grade soundcard. If so, then it will have a built in synth which might not be great for music, but will easily suffice for a metronome.

In other words, you shouldn't have to do anything special. The MIDI will be processed by the soundcard and the sound will flow from the line/speaker output, just like regular audio.

I too have a different problem with the metronome, I can't get it to speed up or manipulate it like a drum machine. Probably something I'm doing wrong. I just need a click track for drum timing
