I plan on normally using real drums or maybe a drum machine, but what are some good drums/loop programs that I could use with n-track?

I've been reading about FruityLoops, and things like that, will anything like that work with it, or not?

There's not really anything that works "with it", so to speak.

Most drum/sequencing programs will render wave files. The typical procedure, albeit tedious, is to create your drum track in a program like fruity loops, then export each drum to its own wave file, then import each wave file into n-Track and mix.

Not a great experience, but it works. Using MIDI might be a better solution if you have a soundcard that allows you to load wave samples. That way you could edit the drums and listen to the results immediately.

I use Fruity Loops with n-track, and it works great. Once you program the drum track, you can either export single drums to their own wave individually (better for mixing), or else you can export the entire drum track down to just one stereo wave file. The second option works fine, and is good for making sure you've got all the drum hits in the right place, etc., as you shape out the song. For final mix, you want your drums separated so you can work with the bass and the kick, for example.

I would recommend FL over a stand-alone drum machine, any day. I just purchased a CD of drum samples, and it sounds amazing.

Thanks, Is there anywhere on the net that I can download a demo version? Any drum program for that matter it doesn't have to be fruityloops.

Helpful info!

I just started using FruityLoops myself, and so far, I like it.

PeteAnon (or anyone), what are some good CDs w/ "real" drum samples on them? Where can I find them?

Gidge was actually the one who first told me about it. I just got their sample CD in the mail this week, but I haven't really worked with it yet. Their website has free samples for download, and I think they are the best of what I've seen out there. I used them on two of my songs - Loopes des Fruites, and Good Luck John:

I'm no drummer, but listen to the quality of the sample sounds in the mix-- I think they're very good. The CD is amazing, because they have multiple versions of the same hit-- if you took one snare, for example, and used multiple versions of the same hit throughout your song, I think that you could program a very convincing drum track.

Anyone know-- does Fruity Loops work with Digi001/Protools for PC?

By the way, Slackmaster, i was searching for "Fruity Loops" and ran across your post which included the link to TheWindow102699.mp3 . I didn't find the song, but snooped around on that website (hope that wasn't bad), and found a song about a bad day and another one about testicles. I was at work so i couldn't play too loud. Interesting, and cool. I figured they were yours. I hope I didn't do anything wrong. Makes me wanna post an mp3 someday too.

thanks&rgds,

Jerry,

Heh, you must have run into the space I have with my local ISP. I use it for temporary storage. Luckily you didn't download anything too embarassing :)

My official website is http://www.slackmaster2000.com and there are a bunch of tunes posted on the "Music" page. The songs "Bad Day (remix)" and "Mathew's Love Life" were both done with fruity loops using various samples from around the net (including the cymbal samples made by our own BigKahuna). Everything there was of course tracked/mixed with n-Track.

When you've got a tune ready, do create an mp3 and post it to the MP3 Mixing Clinic.

Seems to me that Fruityloops is best for dance and techno music. You can't precisely place beats, so doing a drum flam or roll is impossible. Try Algorhythm at spacetimefoam.com. It is basically a software drum machine, not a loop tool. The program is a little buggy at times, but all in all, a steal at $40.

That was my initial impression of Fruity Loops, too. But it does much more than just techno. You have to understand how to use it. Seriously, check out my songs.... not techno or dance.

thank you

Thanx, again everybody. The people on this board have been nothing but cool.
