mystery reverb on mix

Hi.

A simple (spoken word) recording I made sounded fine on the studio montiors and in my car, but when I played it on my home stereo it sounded like I had recorded it with the reverb cranked way up.

Any thoughts?

Some home stereos have different setting like Theater or Club settings that add different ambiences/reverbs to the sound and this may be the culprit of your problems.

Your room might be too dead... or your monitors are not giving you enough detail in the mids... or you may also have stereo imaging issues... all of which can cause you to hear less reverb than there actually is.

As well - maybe your routing is off -- meaning your not checking the mix of the main outs... you could be actually sending more reverb to your track than your mointoring is telling you.
