Alright guys here's the deal,
I've been recording for a long time and have used a lot of different programs and hardware. As of late it's been pro tools but more so acid pro 7. I have used an mbox 2 mini on a dell pc laptop for awhile. The microphone I'm currently recording with as an akg perception 200. Here's the issue: static on every record take. (I have attached a sample of the static to this thread as it's particular frequency may be recognizable to some of you, if you listen to it, make sure your volume is turned considerably down.)
The vocal is clear but there's a static thats tough to remove with waves noise plug ins. I have yet to figure it out. I have replaced the usb cable that connects the mbox to the laptop with one with 2 ferrites and still static, I replaced the XLR cable that connects the mic to the mbox interface and still static, I tried using my friend's mbox instead of mine and still static, I installed the programns and drivers on a different computer and tried a record take on that and still static. Also, I had recorded for a couple months on my current laptop without problems and it all of a sudden started (i thought internal laptop noise but I tried on a different computer and still got static, plus i don't have the power adapter connected when recording as well as the usb cable ferrites prevent that anyhow) I even tried a different microphone (a dynamic mic as opposed to the akg condenser) and still got static. I tried updating the drivers and still got static.
I suppose there is a chance that there is something also wrong with the other computer i tried, my friends mbox i tried, and the other microphone i tried but this very unlikely considering all them are in good shape in addition to my equipment being in good shape. Like I said, I'm not a rookie I've been doing this awhile and I have always been able to figure out technical stuff with great efficiency but this one has got me stumped. If anyone has any meaningful advice, has experienced this before, or knows what exactly could be up, please let me know! haha thanks guys I really appreciate all your educated input. Why can't everything just always work the way it's supposed to?! It seems like it's ALWAYS something, if it isn't "this" then it's "that," doesn't it?
