2nd post-(same as the first post -lol- I posted this in the mp3 forum on the site also, not sure where the best place was to post it being a newbeee)
Hi to all on the forum :D

Ive done a website for myself using dreamweaver, theres some cool flash files on there for learning and using "modes" if anyone wants to download them!! help ya-selves!

My mate and I were jamming this weekend and decided to write a chord progression with a melody, "Holding that feeling" is what we came up with, there's a link to it on my homepage if anyone wants to have a listen.

I played the main rythmn guitar, my mate Pete(twangy) played an acoustic sounding guitar, while my brother Paul played Bass and wrote the lyrics.

The only thing is...none of us can sing to save our lives, so the melody is on guitar, and there's a link to the lyrics on the homepage too.
(so if anyone would like to sing the lyrics and send me an mp3!!) :-)

This is our first attempt at getting something down on my home recording BR1180, so any comments good or bad would be gratefully received and welcome.

thanks

"Holding that feeling"

I'm on dialup at the moment, so I can't get the song, but looking at the site I'd say the biggest problem is that if someone resizes the text it's hosed. I generally browse with my text size set to "larger" because my monitor stinks. Try it with yours and see what you get. That's the problem with using elements put in an absolute location when you've got normal (re-sizeable) text. Try specifiying text size in pixels so it can't be resized, or postition your elements with tables rather than absolute CSS positions.

Edit: listened to the tune; it's pretty cool but it gets a little monotonous by 2 minutes or so. If it were my tune I'd probably break up the arrangment a little with some different tones and feels, maybe a half-time section or something. I would avoid getting crazy with programmed fills, too; they only tend to emphasize the fact that the drums are programmed. Still, not a bad job.

yes I can but agree with you there, I guess our point at the time was to get our first progression verse+chorus+a melody down, but that bridge or as you say something different needed sooner to break it up a bit, I agree too with the fact I was over using the fills on the drums

thanks for your good points and your time listening.

my question would be...What is your goal with this site? Get gigs? Share music? It kind of seems like a smorgasbord or stuff going on. Like for example, I know that if i were a thief, I would certainly consider breaking into your house and snag all that cool gear. :D It almost seems like you might be more interested in guitar education with all those modes and guitar charts. My only advice would be to focus a bit...if you've got one that is.

I'm checking out the tune now (by the way, you might get roasted by some of the other guys that feel "song pushing" should go on in the MP3 clinic thread only, so be prepared if that happens). This sounds like it would be great background music for a movie or something, but it seems lacking to really stand out on its own. Sounds like it needs a voice or some other parts going on. As stated before, it seems a little monotonous, and for some reason reminds me a bit of "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton...minus lyrics.

thanks for your veiws, :)
maybe I posted this in the wrong place and will regret it? Just I saw under the forum heading (website and mp3, and Talk about what you're doing, what works, and what doesn't!) my mistake sorry I did not make my intention clear!. :o

As I stated in the intial post, it was my 1st/2nd post so sorry if Ive broken any rules or offended someone by posting in a wrong area or whatever, I guess it will be moved if its in the wrong place.

I also said in my intial post, thats the first ever tune / recording / progression / melody / and mp3 as a couple of friends jamming, but I should have stated that we are still learning and are trying to learn some music theory like what chords go in what key and what scales to play for a melody etc. So it's not there to push a band or get gigs or push a song, it was just to try and get a basic tune together that hopefully works, and maybe get a few constructive views on what to do to improve our arrangement knowledge, I should have made that clearer too I guess :o

I agree with all the comments made from people, thanks :)

Regards the website, as I am just trying to learn some music theory and guitar playing and am a member of the Rock House Method Forum I made the website for an area I use to share a little info about myself to the other members(hence what gear i've got/use...thats not ment to be a shopping list-lol) and those charts ect are what I created to try and aid myself learning so I put them on a webpage there to help other members of Rock House Method learn while I am too. Then I came across this website here!!!.
(no plug intended for Rockhouse by the way, before someone complains)

I also said that the guitar plays the melody line as no-one in the jam could sing but since that mp3 I have had three offers from vocalists to have a go at singing the lyrics, so it cant be all that bad. :)

thanks for your time, and sorry if I annoyed anyone posting in the wrong area and not making my post clear.
BTW-re:-eric clapton - lol

hey man! no problems here with me at all! If there was ever a cross over thread, this is the one (marketing your music/publicity) I've seen people post thing like this in the "Mixing/Mastering" site, and they get ROASTED. You should be fine here.

By the way, I definitely like the tune. It's very plesant and recorded very well. It just seemed like it could use a little "somthing", which it sounds as though your actually working on.

So no worries man! sounds good and good luck! just trying to help where i can.

thanks robert,
I do appreciate your help and view, just I got a bit annoyed with myself at not explaining my reason for posted clearly, :)

Me and my mate are still learning, and to be honest that "little something" it needs in my veiw is that I'd prefer it if the tune was a bit heavier on the guitars if ya know what I mean(bit of ooomph!) and the tune needs to be less POP with an intro + a break with a solo and a proper ending, but we're still trying to suss things out on the song wrighting side and its our first ever try so....i shall say no more and work work work on it some more then maybe will post a link again :D

thanks for your help Robert, much appreciated!.
