Wow I love this site!! So much helpful response = ). First off thanks for all the advice. Yes this is one of the first time I've really heard myself on a recorded playback. I can swear I sound different during karaoke sessions LOL. I am singing very close to my condenser mic not sure if that's a good or back thing. I think my phantom power limits me from singing far away.

I think that usually during karaoke people are drunk as well!

You could join a bluegrass band.

Seriously-I befriended a vocal instructor and have been trading him some guitar tips for singing pointers. Well worth it-a couple of simple things have helped a bunch. The big thing was getting me breathing properly. I don't think I can explain it over the internet, but maybe you can find someone local to help?

It's not always about having the best voice, but learning how to use what you've got.

There's alot of truth in this. When I hear my spoken voice recorded, I think it sounds like I'm on drugs. Drugs that go up the nose and bring about a nasally sound. But no one else does.

I kinda sound like a half-drunk person half of the time when singing. It's just my style I guess :D

yah, singing nasally may just be because of the way you sing.

Sing your notes and then pinch your nose. if It vibrates, then you are singing too much with your face.

Adjust your voice so that the vibration goes away. Now you will be singing with your gut, the pit of your soul.

Practice and then succeed!

You need to shift your resonance away from your nasal area. Go learn about pharyngeal resonance. Lower your larynx and try to resonance more from the chest. If you're new to vocals and haven't had proper training you probably have your larynx high which creates a higher tone of voice + you probably don't have proper resonance training and sounding nasality is a common problem for new vocalists.

My vocals used to sound like I was pinching my nose, too. Then I stopped pinching my nose while I sang and it sounded a lot better.

Now, it always sounds like I'm jerking off when I sing. I wonder what the problem is.
