So far, this is what I have put together for a signal chain for recording. Any thoughts on how to improve this would be welcome.

Does the Avalon have a compressor built into it? If not, you might want to add one.

After that, its room acoustics, microphone placement and talent.

Cheers! :)

No compressor on the 2022 preamp. Do I really need a compressor?

A compressor is not a necessity in the strictest sense of the word. One can be very mindful and disciplined in their performance dynamics so as not to play too wildly, dynamically so as to avoid clipping your signal and inducing any clipping but beyond that, compressors can serve an artistic function too where level effects are created and controlled by making judicial use of a compressor.

Beyond your smartly assembled pict-o-gram you have provided us with, can you tell us something about your musical background and your previous recording experience?

Cheers! :)

I have been playing and singing as a soloist for 23 years. Mostly songs from well-known artists such as James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, Eagles, America, Don Mclean, Dan Fogelberg, Simon and Garfunkel, Bread, etc. I play both 6 and 12-string acoustic guitar.

As far as recording goes, I am very new to using highend gear. Until about a month ago, I never owned a larger condenser mic for recording or a decent sound card. So I am trying to assemble a high-quality, minimalist type of home recording setup with as much acoustic accuracy as I can find. I realize there is a high degree of subjectivity when it comes to what gear sounds the "best" but this is where I am at this point.

It won't fit in the signal chain, but do a search here on 703 or rockwool. Your next BEST investment :D
