I use 1 XT20 and slave 2 LX20's! I use both the Alesis S24 and S32! Decent,middle-of-the-road boards that works well with ADATS. Eventually,me thinks I will go the BigK route and use a DAW (AW116)with digital I/O.
If you do go the ADAT route,use the S32 with an XT20 in case you need more tracks than what the 24 has to offer
as in the future you might want to add on anutha' adat.
They're getting cheaper and cheaper!(I bought anutha LX20 yesterday for $650 demo model with only 18 hours on it!) Good Luck

Thanks for the reply MISTERQ! I never thought of slaving the XL's to an XT... good idea... on a different note, once I'd like to say THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!! Your replies have helped me out so much... imagine if I had gone with my initial setup idea! I would have regretted it I'm sure... everyone's suggestions have made sense and as a result, I've obviously reconfigured my setup idea many times... anyway, since I know everyone is probably getting tired of this thread, I have good news... I've almost decided on my setup!... although i still havent decided on a mixer.... today i found a soundcraft spirit FX8 today for $300!! sounds like a damn good deal to me... especially since i've heard nothing but good about soundcraft... does anybody know anything about it? should i get it?! im very close to driving over and buying it, but somewhat unsure... alright..well as ive said a million times before.. everyones expert advice would be VERY much appreciated! i cant wait to start recording!!!
