Ok guys, have read what you said and done some looking around and a bit more research. Here is the set-up I want to go with. I would very much appreciate your opinions, possible problems or other solutions. I also have a few questions and a few things I would like to confirm, so maybe you can help me out with them as well.
Don’t know what I would do without this place….
Ok, first bear in mind that I don’t want to do anything too tricky. I’m just recording 2 mic tracks (2 male vocals) and one keyboard track (Technics KN5000). Of course I might add other tracks at a later time (Backing vocals, maybe another instrument etc) but I can overdub that. It’s just basically the two voices and music I’m worried about.
What I have:
Computer: Petium 4, 3Ghz, 512MB Ram, 160GB Hard Disk
Keyboard: Tecnics KN5000
Software: Cool Edit Pro 2.1
What I will be getting:
Delta 44 Soundcard
Yamaha MG10/2 mixer
2x Behringer B-5 mics
And that’s what I’m going to get. Do you think this is a good enough set-up for what I require? When I record Multi-track onto the computer (which is a must) will the computer be to slow, will the sound clip and be rubbish? Are the mics good enough to record decent vocals? Remember I’m not trying to do anything completely top quality here, but it does have to be a nice crisp sound as I will be sending of demo’s with this, and also I want to sell some of my own work. I’m sure you know what I mean, it just has to be good enough to pass as professional for the average John Doe in the street. I’m quit good with Cool Edit Pro, so I will be able to make it sound good, or at least I think I will.
Also, with this set-up, will I still be able to use my internal soundcard for other computer stuff (games etc) as I don’t want to go and by big monitors. Will I be able to plug headphones into the Delta outputs to listen to my recordings.
Ahh, there is so much I don’t know. But please do help me and give your opinions as this is a lot of money for me, and I want to know I will be able to do the job in hand.
Thanks ever so much in advance guys for your continued help…..
