Ok guys, have read what you said and done some looking around and a bit more research. Here is the set-up I want to go with. I would very much appreciate your opinions, possible problems or other solutions. I also have a few questions and a few things I would like to confirm, so maybe you can help me out with them as well.

Don’t know what I would do without this place….

Ok, first bear in mind that I don’t want to do anything too tricky. I’m just recording 2 mic tracks (2 male vocals) and one keyboard track (Technics KN5000). Of course I might add other tracks at a later time (Backing vocals, maybe another instrument etc) but I can overdub that. It’s just basically the two voices and music I’m worried about.

What I have:
Computer: Petium 4, 3Ghz, 512MB Ram, 160GB Hard Disk
Keyboard: Tecnics KN5000
Software: Cool Edit Pro 2.1

What I will be getting:
Delta 44 Soundcard
Yamaha MG10/2 mixer
2x Behringer B-5 mics

And that’s what I’m going to get. Do you think this is a good enough set-up for what I require? When I record Multi-track onto the computer (which is a must) will the computer be to slow, will the sound clip and be rubbish? Are the mics good enough to record decent vocals? Remember I’m not trying to do anything completely top quality here, but it does have to be a nice crisp sound as I will be sending of demo’s with this, and also I want to sell some of my own work. I’m sure you know what I mean, it just has to be good enough to pass as professional for the average John Doe in the street. I’m quit good with Cool Edit Pro, so I will be able to make it sound good, or at least I think I will.

Also, with this set-up, will I still be able to use my internal soundcard for other computer stuff (games etc) as I don’t want to go and by big monitors. Will I be able to plug headphones into the Delta outputs to listen to my recordings.

Ahh, there is so much I don’t know. But please do help me and give your opinions as this is a lot of money for me, and I want to know I will be able to do the job in hand.

Thanks ever so much in advance guys for your continued help…..

Glenn,

The computer system sounds fine, 512Mb Ram sounds alright, though in the future you might want to be investing to increase it to a 1GB. I dont know about the microphones, never used them so i cant help you there im afraid. Overall, the equipment you have/purchasing is fine and you should be able to get some good quality demo's from it all.

Having the standard soundcard fitted is fine, you can still use that for games whilst using the Delta 44 for your music.

Good luck!!

Peace :)

Thanks mate. Good of you to give me the check i was looking for.

Yes, i will be getting an upgrade in RAM before the prices go up again. I'llnow set about buying that setup....

May fortune favour the foolish

Antoehr question, so i would like some help with this.

You have seen the setup above. Would it be much different if i went with these instead?

Delta 44 Soundcard
BEHRINGER Eurorack UB1202 Mixer
SAMSON C02 Pair of Pencil Condenser Mics

In other words, would i still be able to recording multitrack onto my computer, would the sound still be decent and clean. The reason i ask is because i'm new to this, and these items above i could buy from one shop on Ebay and much less that the other proposed equipment would cost.

So yeah, tell me what you think guys.....

Again, unfortunately i dont know about the mics, never used them so i cant really tell you if theyre decent enough or not. Youll still be using the Delta 44, which is a good choice, so youll have decent quality there. The Behringer Mixer should be fine, aslong as it has Phantom power for your condenser mics. Again, all sounds good!

Have fun

So here is a silly question.

When i plug the two mics into the mixer, how to i get that into the two inputs on the sound card. All the mixers i have ever seen or use, we just use a mastwer out that plugs into whatever. do mixers like this have seperate outputs, like an output for each channel or something?

Please let me know. I've learnt more by reading these forums then i ever did in my two yearmusic technology A-Level.

But anyway, if someone could explain that to me i would be most greatful....

I dont think that berry has direct outs so use main outs, you can hard pan channel one to the right and channel two to the left and do the same in your software and that will give you two seperate channels. ;)

I'd definetly get the Yamaha mixer over the Behringer.

However the MG10/2 is only a 2 bus mixer - you really need the MG12/4 in front of the 4 input delta 44

What are Bus Outputs? Is that the number of different channels you can channel the sound to?

Could someone explain......

It's the number of discrete physical outputs provided by the mixer.

The 10/2 is called a 2-bus because it has stereo main outputs.
The 12/4 is a 4-bus mixer because it also has a pair of Group Outs with their own fader.

You can also get additional outputs from the insert and aux jacks, but these are not controlled by the master bus faders

Ok, so if i get myself a 4 Bus mixer, i will be able to connect 2 mics into the Preamp channels, and send each channel out to a seperate input on the Soundcard?

Also, is trhere like a good site which explains all this basic stuff which i'm sure you are getting board with me asking?

A 4-bus mixer will let you record 4 mics at a time through the delta 44
