A while back before I bought my POD I was on this forum asking about how it holds up live and how well it works with the footswitch, I got some helpful answers but I guess I didn't really get it.

I tried my POD playing thru a Marshall amp with a band today for the first time, using the FB4 footswitch.

It sounded surprisingly good. Every time I try this thing in a new configuration/situation I always end up pleasently surprised with its sound.

The one setback was the channel switching. It does dropout when you switch between presets. The dropout was similar to that of a Digitech GSP2101 I used to have. Maybe a little worse (slower/longer dropout time). There will be a second of silence when switching from one preset to the next. This can be a problem. You have to be careful and be sure to step on the button at just the right time (which is *before* the time when you need the preset to be changed. This is difficult because it requires you to step on the button 'off-beat'), or else that second of silence will sound like a mistake.

I don't know if they have corrected this in the newer versions of POD, but they should.

Bottom line: I will use this live because the sounds are good and because I have no other effects unit to use except a crappy Boss Metal Zone (which I can't stand), but the dropouts are annoying. So, if you're thinking about buying the POD this is something to consider when asked if you want the footswitch.

Hope this info will help somebody.

How's it work for changing single effects, can you get a good switch between clean and distorted?

not really

there will be a second of silence before switching to the new preset.

I've seen people post here that version 2.x is supposed to switch faster. Has anyone compared the old and new versions to see just how much of an improvement there is in the new one?

Jason001: can you elaborate? Is there a simple upgrade (ie. just replacing a chip)? Is it expensive?

MrLip,

You can get the upgrade chip (cool, huh?) and the new editing software for about $45-60 (US) from a Line 6 dealer. Its $60 from Line 6 direct. You just pop the chip in (pretty easy, too). I haven't bought the new chip yet (this weekend), but I did upgrade from ver. 1.2 to 1.4 a couple of months back. Took 2 minutes. If it takes you longer, it is only because you dropped a screw for your casing. Only tool needed is a Philips screwdriver.

Peace, Jim

I mean just switching a single effect, can you get a single patch to sound good switching between clean and distortion?

I'm not exactly sure but here's what I had.

I basically only used 3 patches.
Patch 9A - Clean + Delay
Patch 9B - Dirty + Chorus + Delay
Patch 9C - Dirtier Clean + Chorus

When switching between these 3 I got dropouts.
