This may not be the place to post this, but I wanted to share with my buds :D. If ya need to bust my chops, feel free :D

Well, my new 1010lt came today and I have successfully installed it and figured out mostly how to get sounds in and out of it tonight (not bad for an old dinosaur) :D. Anyway, this recording just goes to show that good equipment doesn't make a bad player sound any better :D. I whipped out a quick intro to "Come Sail Away" (actually it ain't too bad considering I haven't played it for probably a decade :D.

Anyway, I learned a few things.

1) The keyboard tone sounds better on this card than on the SBLive (duh)

2) GoldWave seems to do a pretty good job of saving the 24 bit wav file as a 16 bit file so it seems. I would appreciate any tips on the best way to dither or if Goldwave is just fine for that or if it is better done in Cakewalk PA9

3) CDex converts to an mp3 file straight from the 24 bit wav file

Anyway, listen if you want, it's kinda funny and if #2 is answered sufficiently, don't bother replying and keep this thread on the first page (unless you really feel the urge to document you laughing which is cool too :D).

Thanks

It works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works, it works :D:D:D

sounds good man.

I'm kinda' lazy on the reading gig tonight, but if you're asking about dithering...all I can say is, work at the highest bit rate possible, for as long as possible...and if your software works in 24 bit (or 32 bit float), then work in that bitrate. WHATEVER BITRATE YOUR SOFTWARE DOES ITS MAGIC IN...use that....so it only has to dither one time...on the final mix.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry, couldn't resist that one.:p You should hear me try to play keys sometime. NOT!

Piano sound is good!:)

I don't want to spoil your mood, but what's that hiss? Almost sounds like........errrrrrr.........the good old SBLive hiss! ;)

Or is it me?

But congrats on your new card! Good for you :D

I can't recall a recording of you with a piano btw? Is this the first time?

Wow dooode! My keyboard doesn't even make music. It just has these numbas and lettahs. Maybe I ought to upgrade to 1 of em SoundBlaster Live thangs, huh?

That's good to know. I have it and RazorLame.

i'm hearing the hiss too....not sure what it is, maybe the mp3 conversion?....the tone of the keyboard does sound great

I'm not hearing a hiss either. It's pretty clear and the tone is decent also.

Allright...I threw the cans on and yes, there is hiss, both in the mp3 and 24 bit wav file. It's probably from my keyboard. I have found it is fairly noisy (Roland XP-50). However, I have everything kind of jury rigged together right now too as I haven't gotten my cables from Markertek yet. I have al old Rat Shack 1/4" (male) to RCA (female) cable hooked to a home stereo RCA patch cable to the soundcard. Not the most pristine of signal paths :D.

So that should solve the controversy...there is hiss :D

Thanks for listening.

*sigh*...ok, good. I thought I had finally screwed up my ears when recording my last song...(my monitormix tends to get loud sometimes)

How dare you leave us hangin on G7 in the key of C without a resolution!!

All seriousness aside, :) ROCK ON!!! Don't ya just love new toys!!:D

peace,
flat-9
( no hiss here..... and it downloaded in 3 seconds )
