Would you mind preparing my cadavar for transport to the big BBQ?
Seroulsy though, I'm pleased to see someone committed to ensuring someting as lovely as that machine arrives no the worse for travel.
Cheers

Wow, Daniel, this is an excellent guidline for me, thanks man, I just sold one of my Otaris, and need a VERY good and reliable packaging plan, since it weighs 78 pounds. Guess how much it went for?! $995! I have to pay for shipping though, and ebay and pp fees, but man, thats a sweet ammount. I listed it LAST NIGHT and someone bought it this morning. I was in my school library "researching" :D and checked my mail, and I was completely blown away!

Thanks man! I'm glad my picts will be of some help to you! :)

I checked out your completed auction and was impressed with your ad copy, picts and of course the price!! WOW!! ebay needs more sellers like you!!

I'll post some of your picts down below, 'cause they're really well done. Btw, what made you come up with the $950 price ? Truth be told, the picts are great but it was the ad copy which sold me. It was really well written. Here's a link to the auction for those interested:

Anyway, take your time with packing the Otari and overpack as much as you can, even if it has to go freight. Think of every possibility that can go wrong with shipping / handling of the unit and pack accordingly. Label clearly with arrows where the top is and also state "this side up". It will help but don't rely that it will be so handled. Be prepared for any handling misfortune and once again pack accordingly.

Hey thanks a lot Daniel, it was actaully really fun taking those pictures, I took like 30 and picked the best ones :D Yeah, I tried to be as specific as I could with the description. Looks like it worked!

Very impressive!

I'll give you $996 for it!!........

So guys ..... Here I am again, with an update, with some more picts, this time of the TASCAM 388 ...and the last machine to be packed.

Again, 4" on each side and the photos, for the most part, speak for themselves, except in the case of the back and top as these were most challenging. It is too bad that TASCAM's back side, where all the inputs / outputs, power cord and heat sink are, is not flat. The biggest concern was the heat sink and power cord. I decided early on that I wouldn't dissassemble anything and come up with a solution. I glued properly measured and fitting styro blocks onto a cardboard sheet (all as seen in photo) as to brace the corners of the back, but stay clear of the power cord and heat sink. The right side was especially hard as I had to work with just over an inch (to brace the corner) before hitting the power cord. The blocks were 3 inches thick and pretty stiff. There was an additional 1" styro and a couple of cardboards to make up the 4+ inches for the back. I also used some 1/4" soft, "springy" (black) foam to place between the block and the wood imitation back side. I made sure that all was very tight and compacted.

I tried doing the top similar to the 3440 but scrapped the idea. There was just too much area to deal with and possibility of collapse of the styro feet. I then went with something more basic and that was to place peanuts in a bag over the mixer / recorder section and a 2" styro sheet on top. This was meant to keep the peanuts in place and two, to keep the meter section (highest point) secure.

Btw: the power cord was wrapped in platic and placed it the back.

Again, even though all of my gear is going on a wooden pallet and most likely would not be upside down, I took no chances. Lots of picts comming up:
