I have an idea, but I'm not sure if I'd be breaching some kind of internet etiquette.
I want to do a public mix contest with one of my tunes. I have a few things to give away to the winner (which I'll decide...hehe). I have a Bheringer Voicemaster 200 (yeah I know...I know), An Alesis 3630 Stereo compressor (shut up), a MIDI keyboard controller, and maybe even a Roland 16 channel board that I don't use any more.
The thing is, I want to post the contest here, but have the wav files and the contest take place at my site.
I don't know if that's considered cool or not. Obviously I won't do it if it's not cool to use this site do hype somehing on my site. I don't mind doing it here, but I know the PMC's are X-Finster's baby, so I don't want to tread on that either.

Thoughts?

I'd say, if you want to do it, just call it a Rami mix contest, and not a PMC. Be straight up that you want to have input on doing a remix, and that should be cool. It's all about learning and getting better. Promoting yourself is also part of the equation..... ;)

Cool...yeah good idea. The reason I want to do this is becasue I'm re-doing a bunch of songs and I'm finding it harder and harder to mix them because I've done them 1000 times. So, it would be nice to have someone's ears mix one or two. Also, I got this stuff sitting here and couldn't be bothered putting up on E-bay or trying to sell it. So it would be cool to get something while giving something.

I think this I`m gonna enter this one, it will be the first Mix-contest I attend....

I can feel the butterflies :D

So whats first prize, I have my eyes on the alesis :D I allready got a verb unit :D

I think it's cool - call it the "Rami Mix" and post the link to your site so people can access the files....where are you going to post the mixes? Here or there?

I'll probably just let the winner choose his prize, and so on.

It won't be as involved as most. I don't think I've ever used more than 12 tracks for a song, and even that's only if I'm doubling parts, etc...

Should be fun....Now to decide on the tune. Maybe I'll even leave it open to toal production. Like, if you think you came up with a better chorus, add your tracks, for example.

Hey Nak, before you decide you'd want the Alesis, the Roland board is pretty cool. I just stopped using it because I put everything through the Focusrite.

M-16E
(that's not mine, just the only pic I could find)

More: ME-16

I'm definately up for this. I need everything the winner gets to choose from :D

Looks sweet...

Probbably be a bit on the shipping though, I guess the alesis would be lighter. that is if I win :D

Speaking of your new focusrite pre`s, they sure do shine through on your mixes, I`d never thought it be that easy to hear a difference.

I`ve got presonus firepod pre`s, theire doing an ok job, I`m gonna invest in a nice pre one of these days.

Just gotta buy myself a new drum kit first :)

man I`m looking forward to this contest

The RAMIX
With links to & fro your site & here - well people who want to be involved will be. Using your site is a matter of convenience, hosting space & size.
DO IT.
I'll watch.
Really, prizes across the ocean would be a prob anyway - that's if I have sufficient hubris to dothis.
I LIKE to watch.
Hmm, hang on while I go and get comfortable...

Yeah, good points.

Ok, just have to decide which of my older tunes I want to put up. Maybe I can put up more than one and let people choose.

As far as the prizes, it's true that shipping that board far would be pretty expensive. It's only a rack space wide (19"?) and about as deep and high (it's almost square), but it's heavy. I guess what I can do is offer to ship anything for free, but if someone wants the board, they have to pay shipping. Anyway, we'll see when the time comes.

Ok, off to re-do some tracks. I don't want you guys hearing my raw tracks with my old set up.

But the pros will win with their 50 years experience. :( Maybe you could have a lil prize for the noobs? Like a guitar pick or something.. :D

That's true....I have 4 or 5 things to give away. Hopefully, there won't be many more than that trying to win. So, I hope almost everyone will get something. As far as "judging" the winner, if I see some noob worked his or her ass off and really tried learning from the experience and used his or her imagination to come up with something original, I'd be just as happy to make him or her the "winner". I'm not much passed being a noob myself.
