judging things with my own ears is not a foreign concept to me -- don't we all do this every day when we're recording, mixing, or just listening to a new album? not to mention when looking for a new piece of gear.

but just because everyone has opinions about said gear, it doesn't mean it's useless to hear them.

i know everyone has their own opinions about these things; i like hearing them. even opinions i will never follow (e.g. because i already know i don't like a certain monitor, mic, etc, or because i know i can't afford whatever someone is recommending) are valuable to me as a part of amassing information. especially if i'm amassing information as part of preparation for travelling around the world looking for the greatest monitors ever for less than $800.

ps

forgot to say thanks again for all the suggestions -- those IMF CM2's are cool looking.

secret weapons are good to know about...

Not so long ago Bruce was raving about his B&W monitors, now he is blown away by the ADAM's :D
Just to make sure my comments are taken in context.............

The B&W 601 were always a SECONDARY pair of monitors for me - they sound good, but too good for most mixing tasks - they make a lot of material sounds sweet, even if it isn't.

Before the ADAMS I had the KRK V8's and I consider them a very good monitor. but I switched to the ADAMs because the KRKs were not giving me all the info I needed (obviously, my ears had changed and wanted to hear more!)

So I've actually iterated through a number of monitors this way, each time going to the next level up in terms of fidelty (and unfortunately, price!) as my ears tell me to.

They're cool looking and very cool sounding, the transmission line pricipal is very difficult and goes a lot further than the bass reflex principle.

I have the Compact 2, the CM2, the ALS40II and the RSPM, great monitors for very little money these days. The RSPM used to cost $3600 in 1979.

All of this aside, since when do you stick monitors in your Rack? Isn't there a better forum for this discussion?

dunno

i'd seen monitor threads in the rack before, and it seems like the most trafficked board...

plus, mine are really NEAR my rack.
