UPDATE:

I've been playing this guitar for the past couple of days now and I must say that you guys have no idea of what a GREAT guitar the Samick Ultramatic really is.
On top of that, it gorgeous!

I played it at an open-stage at one of the local pubs and it's a freakin' tone-monster through my Marshall Valvestate amp.
The neck is so incredible that the guitar practically plays itself!
The sustain on this thing hangs for days.

Did I mention that it's gorgeous? ;)

If the word gets out, the people at Paul Reed Smith Guitars are gonna be calling out their lawyers and suing the crap out of Samick.

If anybody out there is considering buying a new guitar, make sure to give the Ultramatic a serious, hard look.
You'll be amazed at what you get for such a reasonable price.

I'm shocked that nobody has made a bid on the guitar I posted above from ebay.
Getting that guitar for around $300 would be a STEAL... provided there are no major flaws.

Okay, I'm done talking to myself now. :D

I've been debating what to do with my old Samick, which is a Valley Arts design Swamp Ash tele-style. It's a sweet guitar, and I definitely felt it was better than other guitars in its price range when I bought it.

I don't think I'll be buying a new axe for a while, so I figured I'd put a couple hundred bucks into getting that one fixed up with some new pickups, etc. When I do splurge for a new one, I think I'm going to save a couple grand and buy a Driskill. :)

"ES-135 (they discontinued the model so I really don't want to wait and buy one on Ebay next year for 1200 instead of 900)"

If I were you I would check out Heritage guitars first...
Hand-made at half the price. Can't beat that!
Also, it's easy to get ripped off when buying guitars on e-bay.

On a side note, PRS guitars aren't that great anyway. There are plenty of luthiers who build WAY better McCarty-style guitars.

Good luck with the new Samick!

BTW that Driskill sure is pretty, but i'd get a Quicksilver instead.
