Are you using the Aardvard as your mic pres? The setup looks good. Good cabling, decent mics, enough mics to do a decent drum setup (if you wanted to). Your next step will be getting some different colors of mic pres.

Even though you only do vocals you would still benefit by having a few different colors of pres in the future. I'd suggest something with a lot of color/character and something more neutral and uncolored. For colored pres there are many. Some to think about: Great River MP NV, Vintech 1272, Universal Audio M610, ... just a few. For uncolored (not dirty or just "different") consider things like FMR RNP, Grace 101, John Hardy M1s and M2s, Focusrite 428, etc. Mercenary (Flethcher's site) has a lot of good ones.

If you're only doing vocals, I'd skip the KSM27, save up another $125 or so, and get a Rode NTK. You don't have any tube mics in your setup. Tube mics are just the trick on some vocalists, especially females.

If you're only doing vocals, I'd skip getting the Q10. I'd recommend saving up a few more bucks and just getting some stand alone pres (you don't need a ton of them if you're going to be doing one or two vocal tracks at a time) and a stand alone a/d. How much are the lucids? Seriously, spending $800 on 8 preamps that are all the same flavor and a/d that could be better just seems like overkill.

Check out some stand alone pres and soundcards, with some research you can probably find some good 1 or 2 channel a/ds and preamps that could fit your budget and will probably serve you better.

What are you planning to get to use as your reverb and parametric EQ
unit(s)?

The Roland SRV-330 reverb, and the DBX 242 (mono) parametric EQ
units are quite nice.

A mulit-pattern mc like the Studio Projects B3 would be handy for
group/background vocals too.

Chris

P.S. Do you have any shockmounts for microphones like the M177?

How many vocals will you be recording at the same time? If you will only be doing 1-3 tracks at a time, you may want to consider the Lynx Two audio card. It comes in four flavors: 2 in 6 out; 4 in 4 out; 6 in 2 out. It will cost about the same as the Aardvark card, though it may be a little bit more. As I understand, the difference is that the Lynx Two card as significantly better analog to digital and digital to analog conversion over the Aarkvard card and any other budget cards on the market. If you're only going to be recording a miminal amount of channels and you don't really need 8 in 8 out, this may be where you should start. That way you don't have to worry about getting a separate converter like the Lucid or Apogee converters.

As I stated, this is my general understanding about the Lynx card. It's been shaped by opinions of people who do have them and some very trustworthy reviews from a variety of sources.

Do the lynx cards have preamps? I hear they're pretty top quality, so that would be a great choice for only doing one or two vocal tracks at a time.

Ok, this isn't what I'm going to buy, this is what I HAVE already bought, and it just came.

I'm using
Pro Tools
Cubase
Cool Edit 2.o
Acid 4.0
Reason
CakeWalk 9

I already have a few tube mics from an earlier purchase, but this is what I JUST got.

Not bad for a 19yr old huh?

For someone who's only doing vocals, you sure have a lot of mics... and software for that matter.

Why do you need so many software packages?

Why not?
I'm working with all because each has its ups and downs and I wanna master them all in time.

I'm glad you're independently wealthy...but why bother posting about your new equipment here if you already bought it? You're just making me jealous...:D
