hey now ! temper temper ...anyone goes insultin the Who around here should not be allowed on ANY music site and should have their solid state amps melted down into those plastic rapper jogging suits....u there who started this thread - your music sucks bad - deal with it

PS

...by the way - my shits posted too - take a poke at it if u like

Dumas - try to ignore the children.

What I thought the song was missing was some space around the instruments. They sound like they're all on top of each other and compressed all to hell.

I know heavy compression is pretty common in this genre, but maybe back off a little, use reverb, panning, eq ...whatever it takes... to give the guitar, bass and drums some definition.

The vocal seemed like it was fighting for room too.

Hi there Dumass.

I'm with Phyl. The mix sounds pretty hyped in the upper mids, and it's lacking "thump." Take some of the energy from the top (primarily from the guitars) and try to transfer it to the bass and kick. When I hit the "bass boost" button, I can tell that the kick has a ton of triplets going on...actually, in points, it's just nothing but 16th notes, which is damned near impossible to establish any kind of groove with. It's not a recording issue, but since you said this was your band, I thought I'd mention it.

And yeah, the brass is kinda' hot too.

I gotta' say, after reading this thread, I expected it to suck much worse than it does, lol. Follow your muse, wherever it may lead you. Most people think my shit's pretty boring and lame, and I finally had to quit caring about that, lol.

Gits are kinda' shakey on the intonation too, lol...sorry, that's my last mix comment.

HAVE A GREAT DAY.

so u mean it was worse than u expected, or better than u expected? and by "And yeah, the brass is kinda' hot too." do u mean the cymbals im guessing?

hey, i remixed it...so tell me if u think its better now.

also the mp3 conversion this time really killed the quality...

Hey man. . .

Since no one acyually told you anything about how to fix things in this entire post I'll give it a shot.

1. LOW END - Too much. Period.

2. There is no attack to the kick and it sounds like a puff of air into the microphone. EQ that sucker.

3. Bass is in the subharmonic range. EQ the low lows (80hz and below) out of it and turn it up.

4. High pass your guitars and try a compressor that will dull the top end on them.

5. Put some 'verb on the vox

6. Try and make the mix fit the arrangement of the song.

Try and fix some of these things and I'll help further if I can.

1. It was better than I expected. From the posts, I expected white noise.

2. yes...cymbals.

3. If there's too much low end in this mix, it's REAL low, b/c I'm hardly hearing any. Maybe there's a lot of subsonic stuff, but I don't feel it.

4. "Hi Passing" means cutting all the lows below a certain point. For example, on a guitar, you're generally safe hacking off everything below 80Hz. I cut off everything below (up to) 200Hz sometimes...just depends on the part that the guitar is playing in the mix. You do it by using EQ or a digital filter. I don't know how you're mixing.

5. As far as how to use compression, check the mixing forum here. That's an entire course, lol.

good luck.

To my ears, the top-end sounded good. Plenty of that, but the low end was missing a couple things. First, your bass player needs to dramatically alter his tone. It sounded like he was playing dead flatwounds. For this kind of music, roundwounds are a must, flats on a fretted bass sound like hell. If he's already playing rounds, then tell him to change his strings and turn down the mid and boost the bass on his amp.

Definitely bring the bass drum up a little. I don't know what I'd do to add definition to it, so listen to other people on that point.
